Ionic Wind is a St. Gallen–based spin-off from the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) that creates cooling modules using high-voltage electric fields to move air without any mechanical parts. The solid-state design allows the cooling elements to be integrated directly into device housings, densely populated PCBs, or structural components, enabling quieter operation, higher reliability, and more compact product designs. Target applications include edge-AI systems, single-board computers, and industrial sensor modules that are bumping into thermal and spatial limitations with conventional fans.
