Overview
k-ID builds a compliance platform that helps game developers and publishers meet child safety and data privacy regulations across markets. Its product is delivered via APIs or a mobile SDK that connects to games and lets developers quickly customize experiences to comply with regional laws and cultural nuances. Features include single sign-on for kids, QR-code guardian workflows to unlock features, a unified guardian console to manage a child's gaming, and options to let guardians approve or deny AI content or tools. The company plans to use the Series A funding to build out its platform and scale its product to support more developers and markets. k-ID raised $45 million in a Series A round, bringing total funding to $51 million. Andreessen Horowitz and Lightspeed led the round, with participation from Okta, Z Venture Capital, Konvoy Ventures and TIRTA Ventures. The company has positioned itself to address rapidly evolving global regulation around kids and teens in online games. k-ID offers an API- and SDK-based solution that identifies how a child is defined by law in each market and lets developers configure game experiences by age, location and digital maturity. Its product can power parent consent flows, a family portal, and a compliance-focused database for publishers without needing access to game code. The company’s core features include signals to customize chat, loot boxes, leaderboards and profiles according to local rules and parental approvals. k-ID entered early access in November 2023 with publishers across the U.S., Europe, Japan, Korea and China and is now generally available. Pricing starts at free and scales with the number of active players per title; publishers can also pay for the compliance database or family-portal functionality. The remotely distributed team is led by co-founder and CEO Kieran Donovan and includes executives from Google, Meta, Tencent, Take-Two, Microsoft and other gaming and privacy backgrounds. k-ID is backed by a total of $5.4 million from pre-seed and seed rounds last year.
