Metomic builds modern data-loss prevention for SaaS applications to stop employees from exposing sensitive information in tools like Slack, Google Apps, JIRA and Notion. The company uses off-the-shelf classifiers and lets customers define custom sensitive-data types to identify personal data, financial documents, and other confidential items. Rather than merely blocking data transfers, Metomic factors in access levels, data retention times, and contextual signals to reduce sharing risk while enabling collaboration. The approach is designed to empower employees to make sensible decisions without getting in the way of their work, which the CEO describes as the company’s "secret sauce." Metomic launched in 2018 in England and currently has 20 employees, all based in the U.K. It plans to use some of the Series A funding to open a presence in the U.S.
