Overview

Mine began as a consumer-facing tool that used AI and natural language processing to scan users' inboxes, identify which companies hold their personal data, and enable deletion or remediation; the consumer product moved from free to paid and reached 5 million users. The company expanded into enterprise with MineOS, mapping where end users and authenticators expose customer or business data, and now counts hundreds of enterprise customers including Reddit, HelloFresh SE, FIFA and Data.ai. Mine positions itself as user-friendly and easy for non-technical teams to implement, distinguishing it from larger compliance players such as OneTrust and BigID. Financially, Mine has raised $30 million in a Series B and $42.5 million total to date; its valuation was not disclosed but the CEO said it has increased three-fold since the prior round. The company plans to deploy the new funding toward sales development and to double down on R&D. In Q1 it intends to launch two AI-focused products: a tool for data privacy officers to perform AI risk assessments and manage internal AI algorithms, and Mine AI, a privacy assistant that gives end users proactive insights about data use. Mine scans users' email inboxes to map which companies hold personal data, cross-references those traces with companies' data-collection and privacy policies, and calculates a risk score for each company. If a user wants data removed, Mine can send an automated deletion request from the user's own account. The core service is available for free; the company plans premium consumer offerings (for example, offloading conversations when deleting data) and business products that create standard interfaces for privacy and data deletion. Mine launched in Europe earlier in the year and has already been used by more than 100,000 people to send 1.3 million data-deletion requests. The company reports the average user has data footprints across roughly 350 companies (about 550 for U.S. users). To address privacy concerns, Mine says it collects the bare minimum—typically an email address and full name—and does not store the actual personal data it detects. Mine is a London-based startup founded in 2019 that provides an AI-based platform to help users discover, understand and manage their digital footprint. Its machine-learning tools analyze non-intrusively the traces left in users' email inboxes to identify which services hold their data, while the company says it never reads, collects or stores email content. Mine has analyzed four million digital services and found the average user has about 400 companies in their footprint, over 80% of which are unused and can be deleted. The product enables users to send GDPR "right to be forgotten" reclaim requests to services on their behalf so those services delete the users' data. The company’s stated mission is to build a new global privacy standard and give people real choice over who keeps their data. Mine launched in the UK after raising a €2.7 million seed round backed by Battery Ventures and Saban Ventures.
