Model9 builds software that enables mainframes to read and write data directly to the cloud or any non-mainframe distributed storage system using patented technology. The product supports AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud and on-prem storage vendors such as EMC, Nutanix, NetApp and Hitachi. Key use cases include disaster recovery—eliminating the need for tape backups—and moving data to the cloud for modern analytics. The company was founded in 2016 by mainframe veterans and is led by CEO and co-founder Gil Peleg. Model9 says it is already working with a number of large organizations that use mainframes. It plans to use the new funding to expand sales and marketing to grow adoption.
