Overview

Montonio provides an end-to-end e-commerce checkout platform that handles payments, buy‑now‑pay‑later integrations, deliveries and refunds. The product supports card payments via partners and has built in open‑banking connections to initiate lower‑cost bank payments common in the Baltics. Montonio charges €0.05 + VAT per payment link and currently supports major banks in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and some banks in Finland, with plans to expand to Poland. The platform automates order numbers, generates delivery and return labels by querying delivery providers, and offers plugins for WooCommerce, Prestashop, Magento 1 & 2, Odoo, Voog, OpenCart and CsCart plus an API for custom integrations. It positions itself as a one‑stop “post‑checkout experience” partner and aggregates multiple financing partners within its financing product. The company reports strong organic traction in Estonia — around half of online shoppers have interacted with Montonio. Montonio builds a one-stop checkout solution for e-commerce merchants and consumers. Its consumer-facing product aggregates buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) offers from multiple lenders in real time, positioning the company as a consumer advocate. Montonio says its BNPL comparisons can reduce consumer credit costs by up to 50% versus larger players and drive higher merchant conversions. For merchants it offers an open-banking payment solution that the company claims can cut payment costs by up to 100x compared with Visa or Mastercard. Montonio is currently active in the Baltics, has partnered with over 1,300 e-commerce merchants, and reports that a quarter of Estonians interacted with the service in the first half of 2021. The company aims to become the checkout provider of choice for merchants and consumers by leveraging lower costs and improved conversion rates. Montonio is a point-of-sale financing solution that allows online shoppers to receive several installment offers from competing creditors with a single credit application. It operates as a credit marketplace and does not provide the credit itself, submitting applications to partner creditors to secure more competitive rates. The company uses varying credit models across partners to maximise positive credit decisions, reporting a current positive decision rate of around 85% versus a market average of 50–60%. Montonio has entered partnerships with the local branches of TF Bank, Svea Ekonomi and IPF Digital and says the product has been well received by larger banks and merchants. Founded in 2018 and based in Tallinn, the company’s stated goal is to validate the product in current markets, create long-standing local partnerships, and then expand into larger Scandinavian and Central European markets. Montonio is also participating in Mastercard’s Lighthouse programme to gain direct connections to major players such as SEB, Swedbank and Mastercard.
