Neul

Compass House, Vision Park Chivers Way Histon, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB24 9AD, United Kingdom

Overview

Neul develops M2M networks that use unused TV white space frequencies and the Weightless wireless standard to provide long-range, low-power connectivity for IoT devices. The company touts benefits including wall penetration, low power requirements and claimed throughput of up to 16MB/s over 10 km for devices. Neul has pursued regulatory clearance and says it has obtained requisite permissions from the FCC, Ofcom and other wireless regulators. It has existing partnerships and deployments, including work with Microsoft and a network trial around the Singapore Island Country Club. Neul is trialling rural broadband use cases but is focused on deployments in factories, utilities, power suppliers and other industrial settings. The company has also asked ARM to chair the Weightless standard to help drive hardware adoption. Neul develops wireless network technology to enable use of TV white space spectrum. Its first product, NeulNET, is a radio system specifically designed for TV white space that meets FCC and Ofcom regulations. NeulNET includes a base station, a battery-powered terminal device, antennas and PC-based network management tools. The system is intended to allow networks to operate safely and legally within TV white space and to provide reliable, long-range wireless connectivity. The company plans to use the $12.8M funding to further expand its position in fully compliant white space wireless systems. Neul was formed in 2010 in Cambridge, UK, and is led by CEO James Collier.
