Neuro Event Labs builds Nelli, an AI-powered diagnostic platform that uses bedside video and audio recordings to identify seizure type and suggest personalized treatment. The system provides doctors with a cloud-based interactive report that can be reviewed by the entire clinical team. Nelli is launched for regular clinical use at 20 European hospitals and is used in collaboration with a hospital in the US. The company positions the technology as a response to high epilepsy misdiagnosis rates and the challenge of detecting night-time seizures. Neuro Event Labs has raised €3.9 million from Hadean Ventures, SHS Capital and Maki.vc to support commercial expansion. Co-founders include medical director Jukka Peltola, a professor of neurology, and CEO Kaapo Annala. The company aims to become the standard for epilepsy treatment in Europe by 2021, expand into North America, and eventually apply the diagnostic technology to Parkinson’s, sleep apnea and cerebral palsy.
