ORCA Computing
LG, 30 Eastbourne Terrace, London, W2 6LA, United Kingdom
Overview
ORCA Computing builds photonic quantum computing systems that use single units of light as qubits, aiming to avoid the extreme cooling requirements of many current prototypes. The company says its software enables small-scale photonic processors to tackle complex machine learning and other data-processing tasks. ORCA is positioning its technology for near-term deployment and integration with real-world technologies rather than purely laboratory demonstrations. The two-year-old startup has partnered with the UK Ministry of Defence to develop on‑premises, room‑temperature models for future data processing. It also leads a 15‑partner Innovate UK project to develop a “quantum data centre of the future” valued at £11.6 million, with consortium members including BP, Airbus, Riverlane, KETS, BT, and five universities. ORCA recently raised capital to accelerate engineering, scale its platform, grow the team, and put functioning photonic quantum systems into users’ hands.
