Assar Gabrielssons Väg 9, Göteborg, Vastra Gotaland, 405 31, Sweden

Overview

Polestar is a Swedish electric performance car brand supported by Geely. The company focuses on electric performance vehicles and recently added two high-margin SUVs to its lineup. Polestar 3 has commenced production in China and completed test production runs in South Carolina, while Polestar 4 sales are rapidly expanding globally. The company obtained $950 million in outside funding via a three-year loan facility from a syndicate of global banks to finance its next phase of growth. As of December 31, 2023, Polestar had about $770 million in cash on its balance sheet. Management says it is hitting its 2025 goals and has advanced toward targets including cash flow break-even in 2025, exceeding 155,000 annual volume, and achieving gross margins in the high teens. Polestar is also executing an efficiency program that cut 10% of jobs since mid-2023 with a further 15% planned this year. Polestar develops electric performance vehicles and has launched the Polestar 1 and the all-electric Polestar 2. The company has opened a manufacturing facility in China and built a global sales and distribution operation. It is expanding the Polestar 2 lineup with a new single-motor variant (78 kWh battery, estimated EPA ~260 miles) and a simpler dual-motor configuration, plus an optional Plus Pack that can extend range up to 10%. Polestar says it will use new capital to accelerate product development and technological capabilities ahead of launching several new cars in the coming years. The company has set an ambition to build the first climate-neutral car by 2030 by rethinking materials, manufacturing and the supply chain. Polestar is jointly owned by Volvo Car Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding.
