Overview

Random Games is creating the Unioverse, a community-owned franchise that flips the relationship between developer, gamer and fan by publishing AAA-quality assets royalty-free. The Unioverse will launch with a series of videogames while allowing anyone to download and reuse characters, artwork, models, music and more to make games, comics, films and merchandise. The studio plans to incorporate NFTs: players buy NFT character avatars to access and play Unioverse games, with avatars interoperable across titles and tradeable. Random Games was co-founded by industry veterans Tony Harman and Wyeth Ridgway and has added executives and creatives including Paul Walborsky and writer Brent Friedman. The company raised $7.6 million in a seed round and will use the funds to expand its team, begin work on initial Unioverse games, and develop the AAA-quality assets to be shared with the community. It also intends to funnel avatar-sale revenues into a Game Developer Fund to finance third-party titles and further grow the Unioverse.
