Remedial Health
Newark, DE, United States
Overview
Remedial Health provides a platform that lets pharmacies and hospitals order pharmaceutical products from verified manufacturers and distributors while managing inventory, accounting and financial reporting. The company offers inventory financing that allows customers to restock without upfront payment and has an app for inventory management and real-time market intelligence for manufacturers. It serves over 5,000 pharmacies and hospitals, sources more than 8,000 products from about 300 manufacturers (including GSK, Pfizer and AstraZeneca), and reports client count growth of 3x since November and 7x growth in clients and revenues over the past 10 months. Remedial operates a network of regional distribution hubs and performs last-mile delivery either in-house or via partners. The startup says it has a considerable market share in roughly half of the 34 states where it operates and is prioritizing deeper penetration in rural areas. The company is positioning embedded fintech (payments, lending) alongside its core logistics and procurement services to increase efficiency across Nigeria's pharmaceutical value chain. Remedial Health is a Nigerian health-tech startup that provides a digital procurement platform connecting neighborhood pharmacies and hospitals with certified manufacturers and distributors. Its platform enables ordering and tracking, financial reporting, real-time market intelligence, and a patient medication records (PMR) system, while offering inventory financing and loans to increase basket sizes. The company sources products from major manufacturers and distributors including GSK, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Orange Drugs, Emzor and Fidson Healthcare, aiming to reduce fake and substandard products. Since February, Remedial has expanded from six to 16 Nigerian states and plans to roll out across the remaining 20 states, while pursuing growth opportunities in East and West Africa. Operational metrics include more than 6x growth in customer numbers since January, over 60% of customers using its inventory finance product, and more than 50% growth in average basket size for those users; orders typically arrive within 24 hours. Founded in 2021 and backed by Y Combinator, the company operates last-mile delivery via in-house distribution hubs and partners. Remedial Health provides a patient medication records (PMR) system and procurement platform that digitizes pharmacy operations, inventory and ordering, and stores patients’ medical records while supporting reporting and accounting. The platform enables pharmacies to place and track orders—which Remedial says it fulfills within 24 hours—conduct inventory monitoring to reduce stockouts, and access an online shop or WhatsApp ordering for less-digitized outlets. The company operates a main distribution center with regional hubs and uses in-house logistics or partners, with plans to integrate with a major Nigerian logistics player for end-to-end delivery. Remedial extends credit/BNPL to pharmacies (sometimes taking 20% deposits or offering full financing) and plans to expand the financing service’s coverage. It currently serves more than 300 pharmacies across six states, sources products from 100+ manufacturers including GSK, Pfizer and AstraZeneca, and aims to expand across Nigeria and into additional African markets by year-end. Founders Samuel Okwuada and Victor Benjamin launched the business in 2020 and participated in Y Combinator’s Winter 2022 cohort.
