Rivan
Pilot plant on decommissioned military base, Lewisham, United Kingdom
Overview
Founded in 2024, Rivan develops vertically integrated synthetic fuels, beginning with Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG), aiming to produce at costs competitive with fossil fuels for heavy industries. The company designs and manufactures all hardware in the UK and integrates renewable energy generation, H2 and CO2 supply, reactor synthesis and gas-grid injection. Its UK-based SNG plant is now in commissioning and it says it will produce what it expects to be the most cost-effective SNG ever. Rivan has tripled its customer contracts and reports it has sold its entire planned production until 2029. The company has leased a 50,000 sqft manufacturing facility (Production Base 1) and plans to scale that site to produce up to 50MWs/yr of hardware. Near-term plans include deploying Project Steadfast (a 15MW plant in Wiltshire) and expanding R&D in direct-air capture, electrolysis, reactors and solar to challenge fossil-fuel pricing within 2-3 years.
