It intends to use the new funding to further expand its ability to integrate payroll capabilities directly into software platforms. Led by CEO John Kramer, Salsa has raised a total of $30M to date. Salsa provides APIs that let software companies embed and launch payroll features inside their own products, handling compliance, tax filing, calculations and money movement. Founded in 2021 by John Kramer and Juan Barroso, the company targets business management software platforms, neobanks, staffing agencies and workforce management companies. Salsa positions itself against legacy payroll providers such as Gusto and Check, aiming to shorten integration timeframes to about a month and reduce engineering complexity. The company charges a share of the revenue software partners earn from payroll to cover operational payroll services. Salsa reports rapid traction: it says it doubled its number of customers every quarter, finished Q1 2023 with 100% revenue growth over Q4 2022, and expects to end 2023 with 400% revenue growth over 2022. The startup plans to use new funding to accelerate product development and hiring as it works through a large pipeline of partners preparing to go live.
