Overview
Founded in 2019 and based in Bengaluru, SuperK operates a tech-enabled grocery retail franchise model that helps small-town entrepreneurs run supermarkets. The company uses a data-driven, inventory-light approach to provide technology, procurement, intelligence, branding, and marketing at scale. Its model focuses on licensing the brand and operational tools to local operators rather than owning all storefronts directly. In FY24 SuperK reported revenue of Rs 84.5 crore (a 41% year-on-year increase) while losses rose 30% to Rs 30.67 crore; the firm had not filed its FY25 annual report at the time of the article. SuperK has raised capital in prior rounds, including a $6 million Series A led by Blume Ventures, and has raised about $24 million to date according to TheKredible. The company competes in the branded retail franchise space with players such as ApnaMart and ShopKirana (acquired by Udaan). SuperK operates walk-in, 500–1,000 sq ft franchised grocery stores carrying roughly 2,500 SKUs, focused on Tier 3–5 towns. The chain has served more than 500,000 families over the past four years across over 80 towns in Andhra Pradesh. Customers are shifting from disorganized kirana shops to branded, self-service shopping at SuperK, often using self-service for the first time. The company uses technology to collect detailed transaction-level data, track customer behavior, and tailor offers; it also gamifies and incentives store partners to promote sales practices. SuperK positions itself as providing contemporary grocery experiences and healthier, packaged staples at transparent prices. The funding will be used to hire, scale the platform, and invest in technology infrastructure to link digital-native brands with SuperK customers. SuperK operates a tech-enabled grocery retail aggregator that connects warehouses, stores, and vendors via mobile apps and enables local entrepreneurs to run mini supermarkets in Tier III–V towns. The company offers in-store tech for engagement and marketing and is launching a customer mobile app plus financial services through its stores. Founders Neeraj Menta and Anil Thontepu started SuperK in December 2019 and have spent the last 1.5 years validating and refining the operating playbook. SuperK reports positive contribution margins across its early stores and has added 20+ stores, serving 40,000+ families in the past year. The company says it has achieved 3–4x growth in sales volume in early stores and is on track to reach 70+ stores with an annual GMV of $10 million by the end of 2021. Planned uses of the new capital include expanding infrastructure, investing in logistics and tech products, and hiring talent to scale the network.
