Tebrio is a biotechnology company based in Salamanca that produces and processes the Tenebrio molitor insect into ingredients for animal feed, soil and plant nutrition, and industrial polymers. Using proprietary, patented technology, it aims to industrialize mass breeding of these insects while advancing sustainability, claiming a lower carbon footprint and the use of 90% less water and 80% less arable land than other natural-based solutions. For pet food the company offers :oProtein, :oLipids and :oMeal — :oProtein contains 72% protein with total digestibility over 90%, :oLipids is a high-oleic, low-acidity oil, and :oMeal is dehydrated larvae with high palatability. Tebrio currently operates a 3,500-square-meter plant that produces hundreds of tons of protein, fat, biofertilizer and chitosan annually. It is constructing a new 90,000-square-meter facility planned to produce more than 100,000 tons annually and intends to triple its workforce. The company raised €30 million to expand production capacity and support the new facility.
