Vay
Mariendorfer Damm 1, Berlin, 12099, Germany
Overview
Berlin-based Vay has developed a "remote driving" platform that lets human operators steer electric rental cars to and from customers, eliminating the need for renters to find parking. The service, which Vay says is roughly half the cost of ride-hailing, is commercially live in Las Vegas as of January 2024 and awaiting full regulatory clearance in Germany. Beyond consumer rentals, the company has expanded into commercial and B2B offerings and struck a partnership with self-driving truck developer Kodiak Robotics. Vay positions its data collection and hybrid human/AI approach as complementary to future autonomous-vehicle services and aims to scale into a global remote driving platform. Planned U.S. expansion is a top priority, with growth metrics such as city coverage, regulatory approvals and consumer revenue tied to incoming funding milestones. Prior to the latest deal, the startup had raised $131.8 million from backers including Kinnevik, Coatue, Eurazeo, Atomico, General Catalyst, Creandum and the European Investment Bank.
