Vegemi is a Helsinki-based food education startup and mobile app launched in summer 2022 that uses XR image recognition, gamification and a cartoon 'Vegemi' microbiome hero to teach children aged 3–8 about fruits, vegetables and health. The app has recorded almost three million transactions, including photo recognition of fresh vegetables and in‑app interactions, and the company has expanded its method into early childhood education through co-development with the City of Espoo and a planned rollout in Tampere. Vegemi’s growth strategy targets families, retail partnerships, and national and EU projects to improve eating habits and strengthen nutrition recommendations in everyday family life. Vegducation Oy was spun off from Venner Oy and is led by CEO Tuulia Järvinen. The startup was invited to present at Davos by the UN‑led SDG Lab as an exemplary solution for implementing Agenda 2030. The recently raised €0.5 million will support international expansion and deeper integration of Vegemi’s food education platform into preschool programmes and other channels.
