- Opera Event
Led · Series A · Apr 2020
Opera Event provides software that connects esports teams, their communities, and brands to enable small streamers and fans to join teams' commercial programs and amplify sponsor campaigns. The platform lets community streamers add sponsor assets to their channels and measure in-market impact (impressions, minutes engaged, click-throughs) to make aggregated audiences more commercially viable. Founder Brandon Byrne built the company on esports experience from roles at Curse and as CFO of Team Liquid. Opera Event takes a material cut of deals (25–30% for deals landed through its sales team; 2–3% for platform-originated deals that originated elsewhere). The model generated around $1.8 million in 2019 and the company expects to reach $9 million in revenue this year. Byrne said the startup is about a quarter away from breaking even and plans to expand the platform into additional influencer niches over time (he mentioned yoga as an example).
