  • Piq Energy

    Participated · Seed · Jul 2026

Piq Energy builds an agentic grid planning platform that sits on top of industry engineering tools to connect models, data and workflows and automate complex engineering studies. The company aims to streamline interconnection processes by enabling agents to run studies simultaneously, unlock existing grid capacity, and accelerate adoption of flexible transmission solutions. Piq launched in 2025 after stealth development and reports managing more than 1,000 transmission grid models and completing over 10,000 engineering workflows while supporting customers running dozens of analyses daily. The company was founded in 2023 and is headquartered in San Francisco. Its founders, Tom Nudell, PhD (CEO), and Dionysios Stamatiadis, MSc (Chief Engineer), bring experience from utilities and technology firms including Smart Wires, UK Power Networks, EirGrid, APS, Oncor, Palantir and C3 AI. The recent $5 million seed raise led by Active Impact Investments will fund the next phase of product rollout to utilities and developers and further development of Piq’s grid intelligence layer.

  • Splight

    Participated · Seed · Jul 2024

Splight is a San Francisco–headquartered grid technology company that deploys machine-learning solutions through its Dynamic Congestion Management™ (DCM) product. DCM ingests real-time grid data and uses a proprietary ML algorithm to turn Fast-Responding Assets (FRAs) such as battery storage and data centers into operational tools that can reliably unlock up to 100% more transmission capacity versus traditional approaches. The company reports over 3 gigawatts of grid assets under management and has offices in Texas, Chile, and Spain. Splight plans to accelerate DCM deployments across the U.S. and Europe and to launch new technical capabilities including AI-Enabled Electrical Studies for Data Centers, enhanced DCM algorithms, a DCM Sandbox modeling tool, and Real-Time Simulation (RTS). It will also expand its San Francisco headquarters along the Embarcadero and grow its Bay Area technology and product teams. Commercially, Splight targets utilities, renewable developers, and large loads to reduce curtailment, shorten interconnection timelines, increase reliability, and maximize use of existing transmission infrastructure. Splight is a San Francisco, CA-based AI startup developing AI-based technology for advanced grid operations that tackles congestion using inverter-based resources (IBRs). Its platform aims to reduce curtailment and accelerate the connection of utility-scale renewable power plants as well as the deployment of distributed energy resources (DERs) and batteries. The company was founded by Thomas Vadora, Fernando Llaver, and Carlos Caldart. Splight raised $12M in Seed funding. It intends to use the funds to expand its North America and EU presence and to grow its development, implementation, and leadership teams.

  • Galatea Technologies

    Led · Seed · Apr 2024

Galatea Technologies builds software that helps oil and gas producers track and manage produced water and other hazardous wastes, providing data on volumes, disposal options, risks and prices to support regulatory compliance and disposal decisions. The company says it serves about half of oil and gas firms in Western Canada and has a team of 15. Founded in 2019 by oil‑technologist Chad Hayden, Galatea spent several years testing its solution in Alberta’s strict regulatory environment. Management plans to scale into the United States — starting in Texas and targeting states such as Pennsylvania and Colorado — to address tightening U.S. disposal rules. The company positions its product as a way for operators, disposal companies and transporters to navigate changing regulations and improve economic and environmental outcomes. Recent financing will support continued product scaling and U.S. expansion.

  • Iron-IQ

    Led · Series A · Feb 2022

Iron-IQ builds a cloud-native, mobile-first SCADA platform for oil and gas operators, positioning itself as a modern replacement for legacy on-premises systems. The company updated its core product into an enterprise offering and markets Patch-IQ℠ with alarming, control, IP-camera integration, custom logic layers, and advanced data integration. Iron-IQ emphasizes rules and analytics, ESG controls, and real-time data flow from field devices. Management says the platform enables operators to increase production and efficiency while improving ESG metrics. The company reports several new contracts that rapidly expand growth and industry adoption. Recent funding will be used to scale the product and expand offerings to operators of any size, including wells lacking monitoring technology.
