Udemy is an AI-based skills development platform serving nearly 80 million users worldwide. The company provides online learning and workforce reskilling across its Consumer and Enterprise segments. Udemy plans to accelerate its AI innovation roadmap, pursue high-ROI growth initiatives, and capitalize on strategic opportunities to extend its leadership in workforce skills development. Financially, Udemy closed a $200 million senior secured revolving credit facility that remains undrawn at closing and matures on May 30, 2030. As of March 31, 2025, the company reported no outstanding debt and had more than $350 million in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, and the CEO cited over $550 million in total liquidity. The facility was arranged with a lending syndicate including Citibank (administrative agent), MUFG Bank (joint lead arranger), JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley Senior Funding. Udemy operates a two-sided online marketplace with roughly 150,000 courses created by about 57,000 instructors, covering topics from business analytics to ukulele lessons. Its consumer marketplace sells courses a la carte and the company has grown an enterprise subscription business serving about 5,000 companies, including Adidas, General Mills, Toyota, Wipro, Pinterest and Lyft. To date the platform says it has been used by some 50 million students and instructors have netted $350 million in payments. Udemy plans to invest in improving course delivery, build more analytics to tailor offerings and explore deeper moves into areas such as language learning leveraging partner content. The company also intends to expand international operations starting with Japan and extending to markets like Brazil and India. Udemy’s profitability was not disclosed in the article, and management says it will consider acquisitions as one path for growth. Udemy operates an online education marketplace that hosts 40,000 user-generated courses in 80 languages and provides some corporate training services. It does not offer courses that count toward college degrees. The company has surpassed 11 million students, 20,000 instructors and 50 million enrollments across 190 countries. After closing a $65 million Series D in spring 2015, CEO Dennis Yang said Udemy wasn’t actively fundraising and still had substantial cash on hand. Udemy plans to use new funding for hiring, product development and to ramp up instructors, courses and paying subscribers in international markets. The company intends to work with Naspers to find channel partners and improve overseas marketing and customer acquisition; it faces many competitors including Taobao Tongxue, TutorGroup, Coursera, edX, Lynda.com and Pluralsight. Udemy is an online education marketplace that hosts a public course marketplace and a separate Udemy for Business product used by companies for training. The platform offers over 30,000 courses taught by 17,000 global instructors in 80 languages, with instructors setting prices that average $20–$100 per course. Udemy reports 7 million users, with two thirds located outside the U.S., and its most popular class has over 111,000 students. Half of the company’s revenue originates from outside the U.S., and 200 corporate customers currently use Udemy for Business, including Goldman Sachs. A significant portion of the new funding will be used to grow Udemy for Business and expand globally with more non-English course offerings. Since launching in 2010, Udemy has raised $113 million in total funding. Udemy operates a skills-focused online learning marketplace that lets any individual with skills create and upload courses and offers tools to help tutors build courses and serve enterprise training needs. The platform emphasizes employability skills rather than academic MOOC content and currently hosts about 16,000 courses with more than 3 million cumulative students and 8,000 instructors. Roughly 60% of students come from outside the U.S., and mobile consumption accounts for about 30% of content consumed. In the past 12 months the company has grown revenue by more than 300%. Udemy monetizes primarily through paid courses, noting that about 15% of free-course takers convert to paid courses; revenue splits are 3% when an instructor brings the student and 50:50 for existing Udemy students. The company plans to use new funding to expand internationally by establishing physical operations outside the U.S., grow its content library, and invest in product development and integrations across mobile and other platforms.
