- Shipmates
Participated · Seed · Sep 2022
Shipmates consolidates multiple courier services into a single platform that allows online sellers to compare rates, book standard or on-demand pickups, and automates waybills and address validation. The platform is integrated with nine courier companies and the founders say it is the only aggregator in the Philippines offering both on-demand and standard couriers. Shipmates targets small- to mid-sized online sellers with typical basket sizes of $20–$50 and reduces a day‑long shipping process to under 10 minutes. The startup monetizes by charging $0.30 per order booked through the platform. Shipmates launched its platform last December and reports revenue growing 30% month-over-month since then. Founded in July 2021 by CEO Josh Supan and CTO David Marquez, the team previously ran an e-commerce enabler and pivoted to solve merchants’ shipping problems.

Topship is a digital freight forwarder that helps African merchants export and import parcels and cargo, with a deliberate focus on air freight. The company was founded in 2020 by CEO Moses Enenwali and went live in March 2021 with CTO Junaid Babatunde. Topship serves roughly 1,500 merchants moving cargo from Nigeria to more than 150 countries and can accept inbound deliveries from the U.S., the U.K. and China. Its revenue comes from selling shipping insurance and taking a margin on transactions, and it is exploring additional streams including trade financing and customs clearance charges. The startup reports about 50% month-on-month revenue growth since joining Y Combinator in January. Topship emphasizes an air-first model (arguing ocean freight is less viable across much of Africa) and aims to make shipping as easy as booking an Uber; it plans to use new capital to improve its asset-light technology and build proprietary global shipping infrastructure while preparing expansion into Ghana, Tanzania and Kenya, and has set aside $3,500 fashion and retail grants for Nigerian brands.

Acho provides a no-code/low-code platform that converts a company’s data assets into business applications such as performance dashboards, project management tools, and web apps without requiring IT support or prior data infrastructure. The product is positioned as a collaborative, Google‑Sheets‑style interface for real‑time databases to boost data literacy among nontechnical users. Founders Vincent Jiang and Samuel Liu started the company in May 2020 and graduated from Y Combinator’s summer 2020 batch. Acho reports over 50 teams as customers and says it is experiencing roughly 50% customer growth each month. The team has expanded from three people to 11 in the past three months. Acho plans to use new funding to build requested features, services, and infrastructure and to grow the team to support customer demand.
