- Verna
Participated · Equity · Jan 2026
Verna develops a software platform that helps companies translate high-level biodiversity and nature-related commitments into actionable, measurable recovery plans. Its product integrates existing environmental data sources and applies AI to optimize planning, on-the-ground implementation, and long-term monitoring of biodiversity outcomes. More than 3,000 users across over 100 organizations currently rely on the platform, underscoring early market traction. Verna’s tools were first built around the UK’s Biodiversity Net Gain framework and are now being extended to additional global nature-recovery standards. Management positions the software as a bridge from risk reporting to verifiable ecological impact, helping businesses improve long-term resilience. With fresh capital, the company intends to expand its AI capabilities and support a wider array of nature-recovery methodologies. The business is headquartered in the United Kingdom and targets organizations with land-related operations or supply chains.
- PES Technologies
Participated · Seed · Oct 2023
P.E.S. Technologies has developed a portable, biology-based soil health testing product built around proprietary VOC-sensing (“smell-based”) technology that delivers multiple biological, chemical and physical soil health indicators in the field in about five minutes. The company says the device links smells produced by microbial life to known soil health indicators and is designed to be affordable and easy to use for agronomists and farmers. P.E.S. closed a £2.4M Seed investment to finish product development and make the tool market-ready, and Innovate UK will provide an additional £625k of non-dilutive support. The firm plans a product launch in Spring 2024 and intends to hire multiple commercial and administrative staff. Founded in 2017, P.E.S. is UK-based and employs a team of five. The company has received recognition including Cleantech Group’s 2023 50 to Watch and inclusion in the FoodTech 500 in 2022.
- Beta Bugs Limited
Participated · Equity · Oct 2023
Beta Bugs Limited develops advanced Black Soldier Fly (BSF) genetics, with its lead product named Hiper-Fly. Independent trials in early 2026 reportedly showed Hiper-Fly’s superiority versus industry benchmarks. In August 2026 the company signed an MOU with FreezeM to develop Hiper-Fly as a suspended neonate product to enable supply of improved genetics across Europe. Beta Bugs raised £800,000 from existing investors to fund milestones aimed at achieving first sales of Hiper-Fly in early 2027. The company appointed Dr Alan Tinch as CEO; leadership cited his experience commercialising advanced genetics in other species as important for building a profitable business. Management states the combination of trial results, the FreezeM MOU, and the new funding positions the company to move to commercialisation and pursue global leadership in BSF genetics.
