  • Retorna

    Participated · Equity · Jun 2024

Retorna is a Chilean fintech founded in 2018 by Atilana Piñón and Juan Camilo Mora that facilitates cross-border remittances for migrants with easy, fast and secure transactions and fair fees. The company’s core product simplifies money transfers between countries and targets financial inclusion for migrant populations across the region. Until this raise the startup was fully bootstrapped, and the new capital marks its first external funding round. Retorna plans to use the funds to scale customer acquisition and retention efforts and to open new remittance corridors connecting the region. The team emphasizes social impact and economic empowerment of migrants as central to its product and go-to-market strategy. Participation in Impacta VC’s fundraising programs in 2023 helped prepare the company for this fundraise and validated the team’s capacity to scale.

The company began operations in 2019 and has worked with 30 high-impact organizations, including Nestlé, Kavak and Bitso, serving more than 64,000 employees and family members. Cuéntame reports up to a 60% reduction in turnover of key talent and a 40% improvement in worker well-being among client companies, and says 70% of users accessed mental health tools for the first time through employer adoption. The startup plans to strengthen expansion mainly in Mexico, Colombia and Chile and to accelerate region-wide growth. It positions its anonymous data and HR-aligned insights as central to preventing presenteeism, absenteeism and loss of productivity.
