Octarine Bio engineers microbial systems via precision fermentation to create PurePalette, a natural pigment platform that can deliver the full colour spectrum through a single production process. The pigments are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing textile dyeing workflows while offering superior colour strength, performance and stability compared with fossil-based dyes. Beyond textiles, the company is exploring applications in food & beverage and cosmetics, emphasising a significantly lower environmental footprint across sectors. With the latest capital, Octarine will scale industrial-level production of its first three flagship colours and execute commercial partnerships already in place. The firm also plans to validate PurePalette at industrial scale and broaden product development into additional industries. Including the new funding, Octarine’s Series A totals €12.8 million, reflecting continued investor confidence. Key backers now include The Footprint Firm, Edaphon, Unconventional Ventures, DSM-Firmenich Ventures, Oskare Capital, several business angels, and noted Danish biotech veterans Per Falholt and Steen Riisgaard.

SwarmFarm Robotics develops compact, self-driving “SwarmBots” that work together in fleets to handle on-farm tasks such as spraying and crop management. These robots are paired with SwarmConnect, an open “app store for agriculture” that lets third-party developers and farmers add crop- or task-specific software modules. By replacing million-dollar tractors and combines with simpler, lower-cost machines operated from a smartphone-like interface, the company aims to cut input costs, improve repairability, and reduce environmental impact. Farmer adoption of SwarmBots now exceeds that of traditional tractor-autonomy solutions in Australia, and some SwarmConnect partners report sales gains of more than $20 million in a single year. With fresh capital, SwarmFarm plans to expand manufacturing capacity in Toowoomba, grow its team, and launch into North America. Founded in 2012 by Queensland farmers Andrew and Jocie Bate, the startup previously raised a $12 million Series A in 2023, a $4.5 million round in 2020, and secured an $856,000 grant from the Northern Australia Development Program in 2022. The new funding strengthens its balance sheet as farmers worldwide seek more efficient, cost-effective machinery heading into 2026.

OroraTech operates a Wildfire Solution platform that ingests high-resolution thermal data from proprietary and public satellites to deliver real-time situational awareness and risk alerts. The company designs and operates nano-satellites and data pipelines to detect fires day or night and convert raw thermal data into actionable intelligence. It currently has ten satellites in orbit and a team of more than 140, and operates across Germany, the US, Australia, Brazil, Canada and Greece. OroraTech aims to deliver the world’s most persistent and comprehensive thermal data stream and to create a global “wildfire digital twin” capable of simulating future fire behavior. In the past year the company has signed close to €100 million in commercial contracts and venture capital, and recently extended its Series B financing. OroraTech develops space-based wildfire intelligence using thermal-infrared imaging satellites and analytics to offer near-real-time monitoring of at-risk lands. The company currently operates two of its own satellites and monitors about 160 million hectares of forest. It initially used data from dozens of other imaging satellites and terrestrial sources but now relies on its own sensors and plans an initial constellation of eight satellites by mid-2025. OroraTech has commercial deployments watching properties and lands in North America and the Pacific and secured a €20 million ESA contract to monitor Greece’s forests. The additional data they collect is intended to improve their predictive AI and overall service quality. The company recently raised a €25M (≈$27M) Series B to expand its sensor network and accelerate product development; FOREST-3 is expected to launch in early 2025. OroraTech builds and operates space-based thermal‑infrared cameras that deliver data in long‑wave infrared (LWIR) and medium‑wave infrared (MWIR) bands. Its LWIR sensors capture ambient temperatures while MWIR enables detection of very hot objects such as fires. The company’s first product, the Wildfire Intelligence Solution, detects over 100,000 fires each day and protects more than 160 million hectares across six continents. OroraTech plans to use the new funding to expand its climate solutions portfolio and to launch a second thermal‑infrared camera in space in May 2023. Headquartered in Munich, the company expanded its footprint in 2022 with experts in the US, Canada, and Luxembourg. The team is led by CEO Thomas Grübler. OroraTech develops a space-based wildfire warning system using small satellites equipped with custom infrared cameras and onboard machine-learning processing. The service aims to detect fires as small as 10 meters across and report them within half an hour. To validate the product it has been using data from more than a dozen satellites already in orbit. With new funding it will launch a shoebox-sized satellite carrying a custom IR sensor via Spire later this year and plans 14 more satellites by 2023. The company ultimately aims for a constellation of about 100 satellites to provide near-global coverage of high-risk regions. OroraTech was spun out of research by its founders at TUM, which retains an interest.

Meridia, founded in 2015 and based in Amsterdam, develops tools for complex smallholder-heavy agri-commodity supply chains. Its flagship product, Verify, is a data verification platform accessible via a SaaS portal and API that identifies and rectifies erroneous, fraudulent, and non-compliant field data in real time. Verify supports procurement, sourcing, trade, and sustainability teams by improving evidence-based decision-making and helping companies comply with regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation and industry standards from the European Cocoa Association and European Coffee Federation. The platform leverages earth observation and verified datasets and is currently operational in 35 origin countries across commodities including cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, and rubber. Meridia partners with ICE Benchmark Administration through the ICE Commodity Traceability (ICE CoT) service and plans to extend Verify’s application to new commodities and sectors. The company completed a €5.2M Series A to accelerate expansion of Verify; the new portal enters beta for existing customers on July 1, 2024 with a full commercial launch scheduled for September 2024. Landmapp, established in 2015 by Simon Ulvund and Thomas Vaassen, offers a mobile platform that provides smallholder farmer families with documentation of their land. The company operates a field-based team of surveyors who use handheld GPS devices to map each farmer’s plot, verify the farmer’s identity, validate land claims with neighbours, submit claims to authorities for legalization, and deliver a final land certificate. Landmapp has sold more than 2,000 documents to smallholder cocoa farmers in Ghana. It received an investment of undisclosed amount from Omidyar Network alongside existing investor HERi Africa. The company intends to use the funds to grow its customer base in Ghana and to expand into other countries following this rollout. Toopi Organics develops plant biostimulants derived from the fermentation of human urine. Its first commercial product, Lactopi Start, launched in France and Belgium and is approved for organic farming in five EU member states to aid early growth and phosphorus uptake. The company collected urine from almost 2 million EU citizens via waterless urinals at motorway rest areas, theme parks, and festival partnerships across several countries. Toopi plans to scale with a first full-scale industrial site in France in 2025, a second in Belgium, and two additional factories later in the EU. It will launch 120 agronomic trials across six target member states to test products on local crops and begin exports. Toopi closed a €16M Series A in September 2023 and has been awarded additional funding from the EIC Accelerator to ramp production and product development. Toopi Organics has developed a patented fermentation-based root biostimulant, Lactop Start, produced by stabilizing, hygienizing and fermenting collected human urine inoculated with bacteria to yield a concentrated microbial product. The biostimulant is used alongside mineral fertilizers and, according to the company, can cut synthetic fertilizer needs by up to 50% while maintaining yields and saving farmers 20–40% on fertilizing costs depending on input prices. Founded in 2019 and based in France, Toopi collects urine from motorway rest areas, theme parks, festivals and other public sites through partnerships such as VINCI Autoroutes, Futuroscope and WC Loc. The company holds regulatory approval from ANSES and is authorized to market its product in Belgium, Greece, Spain, Italy and Portugal. With the new €16M financing (an €11M Series A plus €5M in non-dilutive government funds), Toopi plans to expand its urine-collection network, launch three new urine-based products, hire a sales team and build two industrial sites in France and Belgium. By 2027 the startup aims to collect and convert more than 2 million liters of urine and have its biostimulants on 600,000 hectares of European crops.
