Plentify builds an AI-powered home-energy management system that combines in-house-designed hardware, firmware and data-science models to shift and optimise when appliances such as electric water heaters, batteries and pool pumps draw power. Its analytical, optimisation and predictive models detect faulty appliances, determine ideal on/off cycles and forecast solar generation and demand, respectively. The company already manages close to 100 MWh of distributed water heaters and batteries, creating what it calls a large virtual power plant in partnership with Balwin Properties, Conlog and Wetility. All devices are manufactured in South Africa by Plentify’s full-stack engineering team, which includes alumni from Google, Tesla Energy, NASA and other leading firms. With chronic load-shedding driving a subsidy-free rooftop-solar boom at home, Plentify is now preparing pilot projects in the UK, Australia and Brazil that will run for two to three months. The fresh capital from its Series A round brings its total funding to almost $15 million and will accelerate adoption in South Africa’s property, solar and utility sectors while supporting international expansion efforts.
