Founded in 2017 in Clapiers near Montpellier, Greenphage harnesses bacteriophages—viruses that specifically target and destroy bacteria—to create 100 % natural antibacterial solutions. Its first commercial product, marketed for four years, combats melon bacteriosis, and the company is researching extensions to walnuts, apples, pears and lettuce. Greenphage is also piloting wastewater treatments that selectively eliminate pathogenic Escherichia coli and plans to address other pathogens such as salmonella, as well as applications in dermo-cosmetics, poultry and aquaculture health, cyanobacteria control, and biogas plant optimisation. The six-person company recorded €140 K in revenue in 2024 and targets €1 M by 2027. A first industrial production unit (1 000–1 500 L per week) is scheduled to open in 2026 inside Montpellier’s Cap Alpha incubator, enabling treatment of 100–150 sites and lowering production costs. Longer term, Greenphage intends to deploy decentralised mini-plants in France and abroad, starting with neighbouring European countries before expanding to the United States and South America.
