  • Clim8 Invest

    Participated · Equity · Nov 2020

Clim8 Invest is a UK-based investment platform that enables consumers to support causes and move funds into companies helping the planet. Founded in 2019, the startup has curated a portfolio of companies already making a positive impact on climate change and launched a mobile app used by thousands earlier this year. The app lets users find and invest in sustainable companies at their fingertips. Clim8 previously raised €5.8 million in 2020 (including a crowdfunding campaign). The company says the new funding will help it reach a much larger audience and accelerate growth of its sustainable investment products. Clim8 plans a Crowdcube crowdfunding round in the coming weeks to broaden its investor base and drive product and portfolio expansion. Clim8 has launched an app and platform that lets retail investors put money into companies and supply chains focused on tackling climate change. The startup offers users the choice of stocks and shares ISAs (up to £20,000) or a taxable general investment account. Clim8 raised $8 million from 7pc Ventures, the British Business Bank Future Fund and a group of technology entrepreneurs and executives. The company plans to take advantage of new, higher EU disclosure rules for sustainable investment funds. Clim8 will compete with similar startups such as London-based Tickr, Paris-based Helios and Zurich-based Yova. CEO Duncan Grierson said sustainable investments have continued to outperform markets since the start of the Covid-19 crisis. Clim8 Invest is a UK digital investment platform founded in 2019 that offers a ‘pureplay’ service enabling retail investors to back companies in clean energy, cleantech, electric mobility, sustainable food and recycling. The platform’s investment team specializes in sustainability and seeks ‘planet positive’ companies rather than merely screening out fossil fuels. Clim8 has begun rollout to a 12,000-strong waitlist and emphasizes aligning financial returns with environmental impact. It raised around €2.7 million from venture funds, cleantech and technology experts and more than 1,900 retail investors via Crowdcube, exceeding its Crowdcube target by 600%. Combined with a prior round of about €2.2 million, the company has now raised roughly €4.9 million to grow the platform. Named investors in the latest raise include 7percent Ventures, Basil Capital, Evergreen Fund, EcoSummit Ventures and several ex‑McKinsey partners.
