Visbit develops Visbit View-Optimized Streaming (VVOS), a technology that streams high-quality 360° VR video while using significantly less data by only delivering high resolution for the viewed portion of the video sphere. The approach is similar to Facebook’s Dynamic Streaming, dynamically streaming sections of a 360 sphere as users turn their heads. The company is focusing initially on mobile and VR platforms, supporting 4K and 8K content on devices like Gear VR. Visbit launched a closed private beta with a handful of VR content companies and plans to open the program to more studios and platforms. The Sunnyvale, CA team says VVOS can stream a 4K 360 video using roughly half the internet speed normally required. Visbit intends to license VVOS to 360 content makers and platforms to expand content reach.
