- Health In Her HUE
Participated · Seed · Aug 2021
Health in Her HUE is a digital health app focused on reducing health disparities for women of color by connecting members with healthcare providers and culturally tailored content. The platform offers educational health content, community forums, and a network of about 1,300 providers across 60 specialties, and it reports nearly 13,000 members. It runs a Care Squad program that delivers culturally tailored health education classes and plans to expand that program and add new topics including fertility, endometriosis, and postpartum recovery. The company also plans to launch a product to answer health questions via video from clinical experts. Founder and CEO Ashlee Wisdom said the startup balanced fundraising and revenue focus during a challenging raise. To date the company has raised $4.2 million and will use the new funds to expand products and programs and enhance membership experience. Health In Her HUE provides a digital health solution designed to meet the healthcare needs of women of color, with an initial focus on Black women. The platform helps users find and connect with culturally aligned and sensitive healthcare providers and offers culturally attuned health content and community. It already features nearly 1,000 culturally sensitive providers, including doctors, doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, therapists, and nutritionists. The company plans to develop a new platform and a membership experience that will offer customized care support via tailored content, consults, care recommendations, and other benefits and perks. HHH is led by CEO Ashlee Wisdom and COO Eddwina Bright. The company raised $1M in pre-seed funding to support these product and membership efforts.
- Give InKind
Led · Equity · Jul 2021
Give InKind operates a platform that makes it easier for family and friends to coordinate meals and other necessities for people in need. The company has established partnerships with hospitals and is being offered to patients through multiple touchpoints, beginning with Multicare across nine hospitals and 250 clinics. It has expanded nationwide with agreements in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Missouri. Over the past year Give InKind says it tripled its user base and increased revenue tenfold, and it currently has 10 employees. The new funding will support the launch of paid consumer and enterprise features, and the company has joined the Blackbaud Social Good Startup program and graduated the Female Founders Alliance Ready Set Raise program. Give InKind operates a social giving platform that streamlines donations of meals and other aid between friends, family members and recipients going through difficult life situations. Demand surged during the pandemic, with the company reporting 40% week-over-week growth earlier this year and revenue doubling since January. More than 200 hospitals and healthcare facilities began using the platform to coordinate meal donations. The company generates revenue from affiliate fees and is exploring B2B offerings. Proceeds from the recent raise will fund integrated meal delivery ordering and a new way to send digital gift cards, and will support team and marketing growth. Give InKind employs 20 people and graduated from the Female Founders Alliance Ready Set Raise accelerator. Give InKind provides a central profile for people in hardship to receive coordinated help beyond cash—wishlists, merchant links (Instacart, Uber), recurring gifts, deliveries, and an in-app calendar for scheduling in-person support. The site is primarily affiliate-driven today: helpers are routed to merchant sites to complete transactions, though the company is experimenting with some on-site purchases. Product usage is heavily skewed toward coordination—about 90% of pages are set up by someone other than the beneficiary, and roughly 70% of actions are calendar signups or people committing to do tasks; the calendar is the most used feature. The company bootstrapped for three years, found product–market fit, and reports ~20% month-over-month growth. Roadmap items include adding locally run service providers (which requires more manual work) and doubling down on organic growth plus marketing to scale. Founder Laura Malcolm built the product from personal experience, positioning Give InKind as a complementary alternative to pure cash platforms like GoFundMe.
- PairTree
Participated · Seed · Jun 2021
PairTree operates an online matching platform that lets expectant mothers and hopeful adopters find each other without agency mediation, using Jungian-archetype personality assessments alongside demographic data and identity verification. Expectant mothers can browse a pool of vetted adopters and initiate contact; likely matches are then handed off to adoption facilitators to complete legal and financial steps. The company performs basic due diligence such as ID verification and confirmation of home studies and says its platform can cut typical wait times by half to two-thirds, reducing associated agency costs. PairTree has seen early traction via referrals from adoption agencies and reports diversity in successful adoptions, including same-sex couples and single parents. Ninety percent of the service’s viewership is mobile; planned uses of funding include expanding the product portfolio, pursuing additional partnerships and building a native mobile app. PairTree will set aside 5% of net profits for the Lifetime Healing Foundation to provide counseling and support to birth mothers.
- Brightly
Participated · Equity · Feb 2021
Brightly began as the Good Together podcast and is now a curated commerce platform selling vetted sustainable products and advising conscious consumers. The site launched with more than 200 products from eco-friendly brands and vets every product for sustainable materials, ethical supply chains and durability. The founders plan to roll out two to four Brightly‑branded home products by the holiday season and are exploring white‑label and corporate partnership opportunities. Brightly monetizes today through brand partnerships and affiliate-style placement while pursuing a direct‑to‑consumer commerce strategy. The company reports more than 250,000 daily visitors across its app and website. Founders Laura Wittig and Liza Moiseeva aim to convert their existing community into superfans who buy in‑house products.
