  • Anyplace

    Participated · Series B · Oct 2023

Anyplace pivoted from a 30-plus-day marketplace into an operator model called Anyplace Select that provides furnished apartments with a fully equipped home office and high-speed internet. The company leases unfurnished units in bulk from large real estate firms such as Greystar, Avalon Bay and UDR, then furnishes and outfits them for remote-work stays. Anyplace manages more than 100 units across New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego, with annual occupancy averaging 80–85% and a typical markup around 50%. Revenue is up 6x since January 2022, and the team is roughly 30 people. The startup plans market expansion in Q4 into Miami, Boston, Austin and Seattle, to add local concierge touches (coffee beans, local recommendations) and to offer customers the option to purchase furniture or office setups via partner brands. Anyplace stopped operating its marketplace in December 2022 to focus solely on the operator model. Anyplace began in 2017 as a marketplace for 30+ day stays and has expanded into operating furnished apartments optimized for remote work via its Anyplace Select product. The company’s marketplace spans over 60 countries and more than 450 cities, and Select launched last year in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and San Diego. Anyplace partners with real estate developers such as Greystar and AvalonBay to rent, furnish and master-lease units, equipping each apartment with a full home-office setup. The Select offering reached a $1 million run rate within seven months of launch, with monthly revenue growth averaging over 50% and occupancy above 90% as of this month. Anyplace plans to aggressively expand inventory into additional U.S. cities, targeting vacation destinations like Hawaii, Miami, Austin and Denver. The company had 17 employees at the time of the report. Anyplace operates an online marketplace that lets users rent furnished hotel rooms, apartments and co-living units on a month-to-month basis. The company negotiates 30–50% discounts with hotels and collects a 10% commission on bookings while performing basic background checks for property owners. Anyplace does not operate properties itself; it partners with hotels, apartments and co-living companies to drive additional monthly revenue for hosts. The founder, CEO Satoru Steve Naito, created the service to meet the needs of digital nomads and similar temporary renters. The startup reported about 100 people currently staying in Anyplace properties and generated $1.3 million in bookings last year. Product plans mentioned include an eviction-insurance product covering up to $10,000, a “nomad loyalty program,” and an online community for frequent users.

  • StaffAny

    Participated · Series A · Jan 2022

StaffAny provides a workforce management platform aimed at SMEs with shift workers, primarily in F&B and retail, replacing spreadsheets and punch cards with online rostering, clock-in via smartphones, automatic payroll adjustments and real-time communication. Its rostering tools let managers view schedules across outlets, forecast labor needs and costs, auto-fill empty shifts and notify staff of changes. The platform also exposes timesheets to both staff and managers to reduce payroll disputes, handles leave requests and tracks employee performance for auditing. In response to the pandemic, StaffAny added features for contact tracing, testing reminders and vaccination status tracking as required by local regulations. The product is used by businesses with more than 30 employees and serves clients ranging from single outlets to chains with over 1,000 employees. StaffAny currently operates in seven countries, including Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, and plans to use new funding to expand into more markets and build additional features.
