RECON Labs is a South Korean AR startup whose PlicAR platform enables e-commerce customers to create 3D models by taking a short video of products. PlicAR automatically turns 2D images into 3D views without requiring special 3D modeling skills, allowing retailers to visualize products at life-size in AR and reduce time and cost. The company works with furniture companies and other retailers and currently serves more than 22 small- and medium-sized businesses in South Korea, claiming over 10,000 products converted into 3D content. RECON Labs plans to let users download, upload, view, sell and buy 3D assets through a web-based service and to roll out a 3D creator app next year. It has partnered with The Sandbox to build a tool for creating 3D characters and items and intends to open a Silicon Valley office for U.S. expansion in Q4 2022. Financially, the company raised $4.4M in a Series A and has raised $4.8M in total since its 2019 founding.
