- Rapid Liquid Print
Led · Series A · May 2024
Rapid Liquid Print makes 3D printers that can produce large-scale, high-resolution, soft and stretchable products in minutes. Its machines are used to print customer orders across industries including medical, automotive, and consumer goods. The company has developed a software platform to control the print head within the three-dimensional gel space. Led by CEO Schendy Kernizan, Rapid Liquid Print plans to use its new funding to scale production, expand its team of experts, and build additional business areas. The company was founded in 2015 as a spin-off from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is based in Boston, MA. It recently completed a Series A raise, strengthening its financial position for near-term growth. Rapid Liquid Print is a Mountain View, Calif.-based company that builds 3D printers and gel-printing technology for elastomers. Its technology prints with industry-standard materials such as soft rubber, silicone and foams to produce soft, flexible products without retooling or post-processing. The company holds an exclusive license from MIT for technology originally developed in MIT’s Self-Assembly Lab. Rapid Liquid Print works with customers across automotive, aviation, furniture, home goods and medical device applications. The team includes founder & CEO Schendy Kernizan, co-founder & CTO Bjørn Sparrman, and co-founders Skylar Tibbits and Jared Laucks, all with ties to MIT’s Self-Assembly Lab. It raised a seed funding round of undisclosed amount led by BMW i Ventures with participation from MassMutual through the MM Catalyst Fund to develop its printing solutions and expand into new customers, applications and materials.
- Q.BIG 3D
Led · Series A · Jul 2023
Q.Big 3D specialises in large-format 3D printing and was founded in 2019 as a spin-out of Aalen University. Its flagship machine, the Queen 1, is an XXXL printer that uses economical plastic pellets and Q.Big 3D's patented two-nozzle system (one nozzle for fast, high-volume printing and one for fine surfaces). The Queen 1 reached beta where it printed side doors for helicopter cockpits. Q.Big 3D sees applications across rail and commercial vehicles, shipbuilding, aerospace, mechanical engineering, architecture, construction, exhibition-stand construction and building technology. The company says customers report a 70% lead-time reduction and at least a 30% cost reduction versus alternatives such as milling, laminating or casting. Following the R&D phase, Q.Big 3D states it is set for growth and is preparing for market launch of the Queen 1.
- Xolo
Participated · Series A · Feb 2023
Xolo, founded in 2019 at Berlin’s Adlershof Technology Park, has developed Xolography, a volumetric 3D printing process that yields exceptionally smooth surfaces and accepts materials previously unsuitable for additive manufacturing. The technology targets demanding uses in optics, bioprinting, dentistry and acoustics where intricate geometries and material performance are paramount. Its first commercial device, the Xube printer, is already deployed by research groups, validating real-world applicability. The company is now engineering larger industrial printers tailored to the optics and biomaterials sectors. By enabling faster fabrication with broader material compatibility, Xolography positions Xolo to serve niches unreachable by traditional layer-based 3D printers. The recent Series A financing provides capital to accelerate product development and expand early market deployments.
- Axtra3D
Led · Series A · Nov 2022
Axtra3D is a Charlotte, NC-based developer and producer of 3D printing machines for the additive manufacturing industry. Led by CEO Gianni Zitelli, the company’s first product is the Lumia X1 3D printer, which combines stereolithography (SLA) and digital light processing (DLP/LCD) into a single machine. Axtra3D raised $6.25M in a Series A funding round led by HZG Group and Frank Carsten Herzog, with participation from Steve Grundahl. The company intends to use the funds to build processes and supply chains ahead of its upcoming market entry. It also plans to attract new talent to its offices in Italy and the US. Axtra3D aims to give customers a choice of both SLA and DLP workflows in one product where they previously had to choose.
