- Upflex
Participated · Series A · May 2022
Upflex offers a suite of SaaS solutions and a global marketplace that aggregates flexible workspaces and connects occupiers, brokerages and flex-space providers. The company is the sole aggregator of WeWork inventory following an exclusive partnership that expanded its network to more than 6,000 bookable locations across 80 countries and 900 cities, with 700+ other flex operator partners. Upflex’s data-driven platform provides employers and employees with booking, portfolio management and real-time usage data to optimize hybrid work, sustainability and costs. Founded in 2018, the company positions its technology as the backbone of the flex industry and a standard for hybrid workplace operations. Upflex plans to expand its software offering, recruit talent, and grow its network to 30,000 bookable workspaces by 2025. The company reported total funding to-date of $34.1 million following the new round. Upflex operates a global marketplace for flexible workspaces, giving companies on-demand access to private offices, desks, and meeting rooms by the day, week, month, or year. The platform emphasizes sustainability through a partnership with Trees.org and claims to plant a tree for every booked area; it has planted 10,000 trees thanks to its first 100 clients. Upflex positions itself as a cost-effective, sustainable alternative to large operators and targets medium and large companies looking to reduce real-estate commitments and carbon footprints while offering workplace choice to employees. The company was founded in 2017 by Christophe Garnier and Ginger Dhaliwal and is New York–based. In addition to its marketplace, Upflex recently hired Liassine Talbi, a former IWG Regus executive, as global sales lead. The company plans to expand its standard office options and meeting-room booking capabilities.
- Beem
Participated · Seed · Feb 2022
Beem’s core product is a consumer mobile app that captures a person on video, segments them from the background via proprietary computer‑vision algorithms, and streams a 3D‑like AR “beem” into a recipient’s space for live or pre‑recorded messages. The company soft‑launched its latest app iteration last month and supports one‑to‑one and multi‑viewer two‑way audio telepresence (up to 25 people) as well as one‑to‑many livestreams. Beem previously operated as HoloMe, building AR campaigns and projects for brands such as Vogue, Louis Vuitton, H&M and TEDx while using that work to refine its technology. Usage metrics reported include about 500 messages per day, roughly 14.2 million views of “beems” over the past six weeks, and more than 1,500 AR messages sent over Valentine’s Day. The startup has filed multiple patents on its engine and delivery methods (two have been granted) and says it has a prototype AR‑glasses experience being developed with an undisclosed FAANG company and a major chip supplier. The company acknowledges current friction in the mobile workflow (phone mounting, recording and a brief processing lag) and is positioning the product toward AR glasses as its ideal use case.
- LEX
Participated · Equity · Jan 2021
LEX operates a securities marketplace that takes individual commercial buildings public via single-asset IPOs, allowing both accredited and non-accredited investors to buy and sell minority positions in properties. Investments are offered as publicly traded partnership interests so tax benefits of direct real estate ownership can pass through to investors. The platform is powered by Nasdaq’s Universal Matching System (UMS) and supports trading starting at $250 with no lockups. LEX positions its product as an alternative to commingled public REITs by enabling direct investment in single assets and helping property owners unlock equity while retaining operational control. The company highlights a strategic partnership with Nasdaq and an expanding senior advisory and board team to advance its marketplace. Most recently LEX closed new financing as it continues to scale its marketplace and broaden investor access to commercial real estate. LEX operates a marketplace that lets everyday retail investors purchase and trade shares of individual commercial real estate properties, enabling customizable income-producing portfolios. The platform issues shares under Regulation A so non-accredited investors can participate, and those shares will be publicly tradable partnership interests that pass through tax benefits. LEX will price offered securities initially at $100 to simplify portfolio construction and will provide tools for users to research and compare properties. Property owners can sell ownership interests while retaining operational control, unlocking equity without full property sales. The company was founded by Drew Sterrett (CEO), Dean Sterrett (Head of Product), and Jesse Daugherty (a former Google engineer). LEX recently closed seed financing to advance its marketplace and expand access to the asset class.
