Aurum Biosciences is developing ABL‑101, a novel oxygen carrier being advanced both as a therapeutic and as a 19F contrast agent for MRI diagnostics. The platform targets acute ischemic stroke, acute spinal cord injury, radiotherapy‑resistant tumours, and reduction of secondary organ damage after cardiac arrest. The company is a spinout of InnoScot Health, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and the University of Glasgow and is based in Scotland. Aurum recently secured nearly £730,000 in the first tranche of a funding round that will be split across two tranches, supported by new and existing investors. Management plans to use the funding to advance ABL‑101 ahead of further planned investment and growth in 2024, with increasing focus on spinal cord injury following positive scientific advice from the MHRA. Last year ABL‑101 received an Innovation Passport via the UK Innovative Licensing and Access Pathway (ILAP), reflecting regulatory recognition of its potential to address significant patient need.
