  • Ada Health

    Participated · Series B · May 2021

Ada Health is a Berlin-based digital healthcare provider that offers an AI-based health assessment and care-navigation methodology. The company has delivered 23 million assessments since the global launch of its app. Ada says it will use new funding to expand its product offering and accelerate growth in the US and other key geographies. Leadership cites demand from health systems, insurers, and life sciences organizations for solutions that transform patient journeys and improve outcomes. Ada’s stated goal is to improve healthcare outcomes for more than 1 billion people and to develop a personalized operating system for health. The company was founded in 2011 by Claire Novorol, Daniel Nathrath, and Martin Hirsch. Ada Health offers an AI-driven symptom-assessment app for patients alongside a suite of enterprise triage and integration tools for partners. Its consumer app, launched in late 2016 and free to use, has been downloaded by more than 11 million people across 150 countries and has completed about 23 million assessments; it currently supports 10 languages. Ada's medical knowledge base covers around 30,000 ICD-10 codes, and the company led a BMJ peer-reviewed study that found its app outperformed seven competitors on coverage, accuracy and safety. The enterprise products allow partners to embed Ada’s triage technology into their digital services (a publicly disclosed customer is Sutter Health), enabling structured pre-assessment data to be shared with clinicians. The company has been developing its technology for roughly a decade, initially funded by high-net-worth individuals and later raising a $47M Series A in 2017. Ada plans to scale globally and to integrate additional input sources—sensors, wearables, lab data and genetic testing—toward a continuous personal health platform. Ada Health offers an AI-driven chat interface that helps people symptom-check and connects them with real doctors, aiming to create a pre-diagnosis before clinical care. The product has been in development for six years and launched in late 2016. The company says it has been one of the fastest-growing medical apps in 2017 and reports more than 1.5 million users since launch. Its stated mission is to improve access to healthcare globally by personalizing care through AI until a doctor takes over. Ada is headquartered in Berlin and plans to expand its presence in the U.S. with a new office. The recent funds will be used to improve the product and hire staff to support growth.
