  • Soil Connect

    Participated · Seed · Dec 2020

Soil Connect operates a digital marketplace and service offering that matches parties who have dirt with those who need it, using match-making algorithms to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The company recently unveiled an improved Marketplace product and new Dirt Production Management features that provide real-time insights on dirt volume, velocity, schedule, and budget tracking. It also launched a Dirt Commodity Market Data reporting service for subscribers and introduced a new subscription model to drive adoption. Soil Connect reported surpassing 12,000 marketplace users and matching over 40 million yards of dirt in 2024, with customers saving an average of 34% and about $5 per yard on dirt and hauling costs. To support growth it launched a new corporate website, added hires in Customer Success and Go-to-Market, and appointed Jonathan Alvarado as CEO while co-founder Cliff Fetner moves to an advisory board role. Soil Connect operates an institutionally backed digital marketplace for soil, aggregates and other building materials, serving excavators, contractors, developers, landscapers and other building professionals. Its core products include eTickets, which digitizes contractors’ administrative workflow, and a patent‑pending eRegulatory module that eliminates paper tickets and captures truck, load and route data for regulatory sharing. The company says these products drive efficiencies that save time and money and have led to rapid adoption and expansion of its user base. Soil Connect will use proceeds from its latest strategic financing to continue building out technology, product infrastructure and its team. The company has added eight hires over the past six months and named four construction industry professionals to its advisory board. The business was founded by Cliff Fetner. Soil Connect is the first institutionally backed digital marketplace focused on the soil and aggregates industry, connecting suppliers and buyers of dirt-related materials. Its core product is a marketplace app that matches excavators, contractors, developers and landscapers to source or dispose of soil, aggregates and other materials. The company recently launched an e-ticketing service that digitizes historically paper-based ticketing for tracking and invoicing dirt transactions, enabling contactless, transparent transactions. Soil Connect closed a $3.25 million seed round and will use the proceeds to expand its team and introduce new enhancements and features, including a regulatory component to track materials from origination to destination. The company has announced strategic hires—Jonathan Alvarado as Chief Growth Officer and Berkay Sebat as Head of Mobile—to grow marketplace capabilities. Investors and partners highlighted the platform’s potential to bring transparency and data to an opaque market and to scale the nation’s largest dirt marketplace. Soil Connect operates a mobile and web-based platform that digitizes and streamlines the transport and management of soil, aggregates and related materials for excavators, builders, contractors and landscapers. Users can post listings and requests, upload supplier-certified analyses and geotechnical reports, and transact to minimize distance and travel time between job sites. The platform reduces transportation costs and carbon output by shortening trips and automating parts of the logistics process. Soil Connect states its user base includes thousands of construction professionals nationwide who have posted more than 65 million yards of soil on the platform. The company plans to continue investing in its technology, refine its service offering to enable tracking of soil movement and automate dispatching, and expand its user base into new North American markets. It has also executed strategic partnership agreements with leading construction firms to support adoption.
