The Jefferson Education Accelerator (JEA) brings together world-class researchers and promising education technology companies to identify solutions that are having a positive impact on student outcomes. Unlike other ed tech accelerators that focus on early-stage startups, JEA targets growth stage education companies, and provides them with business mentorship, access to a network of forward-thinking K-12 and higher education institutions, and the opportunity to work with leading researchers and practitioners to evaluate the efficacy of their products and tools. Through the Jefferson Education Fund, JEA also provides access to investment capital for select ventures in promising companies that show good results.

Its platform is designed to help universities, health care providers, financial services firms and employers improve key outcomes. The system guides and inspires students, patients, consumers and employees to adopt better behaviors and reach long-term goals such as graduating from college or improving health. Led by founder and CEO Alan Tripp, the company targets multiple sectors with its product. The recent funding will be used to accelerate the company’s growth across those sectors. Motimatic is based in San Francisco, CA. Motimatic combines behavioral science with advertising techniques to deliver personalized motivational messages to college students through social media and digital communications networks. Its system draws from a library of more than 1,000 messages and personalizes the experience for each student based on academic and demographic characteristics. Messages are delivered via Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, SMS and email, appearing in place of the online advertising students would normally encounter. The platform optimizes distribution of motivational messages to specific students to influence persistence and completion. Led by co-founder and CEO Alan Tripp, the company has recently added seven new university customers and more than 10,000 students. Motimatic is based in San Francisco, California.

Founded in 2014, the company reports customers in more than 35 states. It has raised $4.75 million to date, including a $1.75 million Series A in September 2019 led by SustainVC, with participation from Impact Engine and Spring Point Partners, and prior backing from several education-focused investors. KickUp emphasizes building trust with administrators and providing actionable insights that connect learning, coaching, and evaluation data. The company is working to roll out an "intelligence tool" based on its data to help instructional leaders deliver actionable feedback to educators.

Employers and educators use the platform to enhance critical thinking, communication and hands-on skills across their organizations. The company’s patent-pending technology supports individual practice, peer review, expert coaching and performance analytics and was developed through research funded by the National Science Foundation. ApprenNet is led by CEO Paul Freedman and is based in Philadelphia, PA. The company announced a merger with Handsfree Learning in July 2015. Financially, ApprenNet closed a $1.8 million first round of financing.
