Allio is a Seattle fintech startup building a robo-advisor investment tool for consumers. The company describes itself as the first micro-savings tool that allows users to customize their investment portfolio using both traditional and contemporary asset classes. Founder Joseph Gradante said Allio takes a modern approach to portfolio management tailored to an artificially low interest rate environment rather than relying on traditional Modern Portfolio Theory strategies. Financially, Allio has raised $5 million and counts Liberty Partners among its investors. The company has fewer than 10 employees and was founded last year. Its CTO is David Chen, a former senior software engineer at Minted, and Allio recently joined the WTIA startup program and is a graduate of Venture Out.

Avenues develops a system of top prekindergarten through 12th-grade independent schools, aiming to deliver a global educational experience. The school network was founded in 2009 by Benno Schmidt, Chris Whittle, and Alan Greenberg and is led by CEO Chris Whittle. Its flagship campus is scheduled to open in fall 2012 in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Over the next 10 years the company plans to open more than 20 campuses within major cities around the world. To fund the flagship and future domestic and international sites, Avenues completed a $75 million growth capital financing. The investment is intended to support expansion of Avenues’ independent school model across leading global cities.

Henley-Putnam University is an online, for-profit post-secondary institution that provides certificate programs and bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in strategic security. Its programs focus on intelligence, counterterrorism and protection for military and security personnel and working adults. The university is based in San Jose, California. It closed a $4.8M financing round to provide working capital. The funding is intended to help the institution execute its current growth strategy and to prepare for the regional accreditation process. The investment was led by CMS Small Cap Private Equity Fund with participation from Capstone Partners LLC and Liberty Partners.
