Overview
We turn bias into profit. Lightship Capital is exploiting two market failures to the benefit of our LPs. The first market failure is a lack of venture capital outside of Silicon Valley, the second is a lack of capital for underrepresented founders.

- Proov
Participated · Series A · Sep 2022
Proov (MFB Fertility, Inc.) develops at-home hormone tests and created the first and only FDA-cleared PdG-testing kit to confirm ovulation quality. Its patented PdG protocol and the Proov Insight app provide quantitative hormone results, end-of-cycle reports, and stored hormone trends without an external reader. The company expanded its product lineup to include Proov Predict & Confirm and has launched Proov Complete, an at-home suite that measures FSH, LH, E1G (estrogen marker) and PdG. Proov says the Complete product and app deliver a comprehensive and affordable at-home hormonal pattern analysis across the menstrual cycle. The company was originally co-founded in Boulder, Colo. by two women who struggled to conceive and is led by CEO Amy Beckley. Proov raised a Series A to support the Complete product and to expand accessibility and physician partnerships. Proov is an at-home fertility diagnostics company launched by MFB Fertility Inc. in 2018 and co-founded in Boulder, Colorado by two women who struggled to conceive. Its FDA-approved test measures the progesterone metabolite PdG in urine to help women confirm ovulation; low progesterone is cited as a leading cause of infertility and preventable miscarriage. Demand for at-home testing kits has surged amid Covid-19, driving the company to scale production and accelerate research and development. The company recently received undisclosed funding from Lightship Capital and the Texas HALO Fund, plus additional angel investors, to support growth and new product launches. Proov also holds a $1.3 million contract with the U.S. Air Force to provide free kits and connect military couples with fertility specialists. CEO Amy Beckley said the investment will help Proov expand its product offering and continue developing fertility tools to deliver more accessible reproductive-health solutions.

The company reports that one out of every nine applicants is hired through the platform. Bootup plans to use the new funding to hire engineers to develop the platform and launch new features, and the team is considering expansion into the Latin American market. - Proov
Participated · Series A · Dec 2021
MFB Fertility, known commercially as Proov, develops at-home urine hormone tests—most notably a PdG test that measures a progesterone metabolite to confirm ovulation quality. The company received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its PdG urine test in February 2020 and markets a suite of pregnancy-related hormone tests. Proov has rolled out a mobile app that uses machine-learning to score test-strip photos, provide ovulation scores, allow sharing with doctors, connect users with experts, and deliver lifestyle guidance. The company is developing a “complete” testing product that includes PdG, LH, FSH and an estrogen marker and is building an integrated supplement platform tied to the app. Proov has reported clinical-trial data (one unpublished trial of 54 pregnant women) suggesting PdG patterns may relate to miscarriage risk, though that data has not been peer reviewed or published. The company was founded in 2018 by CEO Amy Beckley and recently closed a Series A, indicating early-stage commercialization and growth funding.
