  • Silvair

    Participated · Series A · Nov 2016

Silvair is a Polish smart lighting company that builds a Bluetooth Mesh–based scalable smart lighting platform for enterprise customers. Its product combines base stations and lightbulbs to deliver occupancy sensing, beacons, customer tracking and lighting to retail and building-management customers. The system is designed to be plug-and-play, allowing large numbers of Bluetooth devices to be added or removed in seconds without lengthy pairing. Silvair is one of the first companies to ship a product using the Bluetooth Mesh standard after roughly two years of development. CEO Rafal Han describes the product as the "first fully-scalable smart lighting platform." The company raised a $12 million Series A to fund platform improvements and ramp up customer support.

Explain Everything offers a collaborative digital whiteboard that displays drawings, text, equations, animations, gestural annotations and clip art across iPads, tablets and desktops. The app supports playback and recording of presentations and is used for screencasting, brainstorming and quick explanatory videos. It has been downloaded over 4 million times and reports 840,000 monthly active users. The Los Angeles school district has the app installed on all 70,000 of its iPads and it is on 50% of educational iPads in the UK. Over 2 million people have used the product to create instructional videos, present content live, and support assessment. The company has a 35-person team split between New York and Wroclaw. It plans to use the Series A proceeds to expand adoption across North America and international markets. The company was co-founded by Bartosz Gonczarek, Piotr Sliwinski, and Reshan Richards.
