1X develops humanoid androids (NEO) and a wheeled enterprise robot (Eve) that use embodied learning and language models to understand natural-language instructions and learn tasks over time. The company originated as Halodi Robotics, was founded ten years ago by Bernt Øivind Børnich, and operates a training facility (The Studio) in Moss, Norway. Its technical work includes a high torque torque-to-weight drive servo motor for soft, organic movement, and Eve has been deployed for industrial tasks such as moving equipment, opening doors and fulfilling orders. In 2022 1X partnered with OpenAI to integrate language and embodied learning models as the robots’ decision-making “mind.” The article notes 1X ships to enterprise customers and lists Sunnass Hospital and Everon (about 250 androids deployed for night guarding) among users, though exact growth figures are unknown. With this funding the company plans to support existing enterprise customers, scale data collection and training for embodied AI, and bring Neo into the consumer market. 1X Technologies is an engineering and robotics company that develops androids capable of human-like movements and behaviours. Founded in 2014, the company has over 60 employees and recently rebranded from Halodi Robotics. Its current products include the wheeled android EVE, and it is developing a bipedal model called NEO. The company says its androids operate at "1x speed" to work alongside people in real-world settings. 1X plans to scale production of EVE in Norway and North America and accelerate development of NEO. The company aims to provide practical, real-world automation to augment labour globally.
