Appetize is a Los Angeles-based company that develops modern point-of-sale systems. Its POS products use tablets and handheld devices to replace antiquated point-of-sale systems. The company announced a $23M Series B funding round. The funding came from 32 Equity, the NFL's investment arm. Appetize says it has now raised more than $50M in total funding. The article does not provide additional operating metrics or future-plan details. Appetize offers a dual-platform (Android and iOS) product suite including fixed POS, handheld POS, self-serve kiosks, mobile and online ordering, and back-of-house enterprise management and reporting for arenas, stadiums, convention centers, theme parks, campuses, and chain stores. The company serves large enterprise clients such as Madison Square Garden, Live Nation, and Ole Miss University, as well as thousands of other global foodservice and retail enterprises. Appetize operates out of a new headquarters in Playa Vista, California, and has over 200 employees. Co-founded by Max Roper, Kevin Anderson and Jason Pratts, the business targets venue-scale deployments and enterprise integrations. The company will use the new funding to drive nationwide growth, onboard large clients, and enhance its retail, restaurant, and self-service functionality. Financially, the round brings total funding to date to over $45M. Appetize is a next-generation Point of Sale platform offering Android and iOS fixed POS, self-serve kiosks, handheld POS, online and mobile ordering, and backend inventory and reporting tools. The company targets multi-site enterprise clients across sports and entertainment, convention centers, business dining, university campuses, theme parks, travel and leisure. Appetize reports deployments at Live Nation, Madison Square Garden and over 400 additional venues. In 2016 the company deployed over 17,000 units, processed over $1 billion in transactions, and delivered 99.999% uptime. Headquartered in Playa Vista, California, Appetize positions its platform as a scalable replacement for legacy POS systems that provides real-time data and analytics. With the new funding, the company plans to expand its team of POS and payments veterans to over 150 employees across Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta by mid-2017.

Silver Living aims to be a “consumer reports for senior living,” combining in-depth research with high-quality, honest photography to evaluate assisted living communities. The product uses mystery shoppers, paid photographers (some reviews include 300–400 photos), Freedom of Information requests for inspection and complaint reports, and resident interviews to produce multi-factor scores. Communities are not given editorial control over text or images; the company currently selects which facilities it reviews and focuses on operators with at least 100 beds. Silver Living currently covers New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and plans West Coast expansion beginning with Los Angeles in 2013. Its primary revenue comes from placement agreements: the startup is paid an annual fee in the thousands when someone moves into a community and has agreements with three of the four largest assisted living chains. The team has said it will pursue a Series A in the coming months.
