HexSeed Technology develops a low-temperature microwave plasma process to grow diamond coatings directly onto finished gallium nitride (GaN) devices to pull heat away from active regions. The startup says this approach could allow GaN devices to run harder, last longer and use less energy, addressing thermal limits in power conversion for data centres. HexSeed works closely with University of Bristol researchers, including Professors Paul May and Martin Kuball, and was founded in late 2025 by Mark Tandy, Dr Leonardo Santoni and Dr Michael Glerum. The company plans to demonstrate its coating process on commercial GaN power devices and progress toward pilot customer engagements, initially targeting data centre power conversion hardware. It has raised over €700k in early-stage funding and provisionally unlocked a Partnership Grant from Innovate UK to support development.
