Overview

PINC was launched as Paulig Incubator in 2018 to help Paulig stay in the forefront of relevant innovations, as well as to contribute to a tastier, healthier and more sustainable planet. Today, our ambition is the same, but we have developed into a corporate venture arm. We aim for strategic, financial, and societal impact in our investments, fostering a sustainable food system for tomorrow. We are investing across the agrifood value chain in three primary impact themes: Improve planetary health and diet within the current food system: This includes innovations in agriculture and food security, such as advanced crop breeding or green fertilizers, innovative ingredients and next generation healthy foods, as well as solutions for tracking and improving climate and nature. Novel technologies to feed 10 BN people by 2050: Technologies needed to sustainably produce enough food for our growing population. This includes food production without land use change, such as precision fermentation and cell-culture. A circular system for food & materials: Regardless of whether we grow our food in soil or in bioreactors, the system needs to be circular. Some examples are upcycled ingredients, food from unused sources, new coating and packaging solutions, as well as technologies to prevent or make better use of side streams. We are looking for entrepreneurs in an attractive market space with an intrinsic drive to find a solution to the problem they are addressing, a clear and scalable plan for success, a reliable team and partners whom we can trust and work closely with.

  • Rainbow Crops

    Rainbow Crops develops Trait Foundry™, an AI-driven platform that combines artificial intelligence, multiplex genome editing, precision breeding, and automated phenotyping to identify and evaluate genetic variant combinations linked to complex agronomic traits. The company aims to accelerate development of higher-performing, more resilient crop varieties and has demonstrated proof of concept in corn. Rainbow Crops plans to deploy its platform across additional crops and expand its scientific and technical teams to scale its capabilities. It raised €9.7 million in an oversubscribed seed round to fund further development of its AI-assisted multiplex genome editing and broader deployment. The company frames its work against climate volatility, fluctuating input costs, and evolving regulatory support for gene editing technologies.

    Founded in 2022 by Omar Dekkiche and Lucie Kriegshauser, PhD, Amatera is developing a high-throughput breeding platform that screens individual plant cells in culture to identify desirable genetic variations before regenerating them into full plants. This approach eliminates the costly and time-consuming step of growing all candidate plants, cutting the development cycle for new varieties of perennial crops such as coffee and wine grapes from decades to a few years. The company induces spontaneous, non-GMO genetic variation and then sequences and analyzes the resulting cell lines with robotics and AI to pinpoint traits like disease resistance, climate resilience, and flavor. Early candidates include a “Robustica” coffee combining Robusta resilience with Arabica taste, a naturally caffeine-free Arabica line, and wine grapes resistant to downy mildew and black rot. Amatera licenses finished varieties for perennial crops while offering its platform to seed companies working on annual row and vegetable crops. Proceeds from its latest funding will help scale the technology and secure additional commercial partnerships.

    Founded in 2021, EvodiaBio is a Danish industrial biotech company that uses precision-fermentation to produce natural monoterpene aromas with far lower resource use and CO₂ emissions than traditional extraction methods. Its Yops technology platform has already been deployed in more than 70 commercial brews and over 10 projects with top-40 breweries worldwide, and the firm has formed channel partnerships with Symrise and Lallemand. In just three and a half years the team moved from academic research to fully approved industrial production and has launched a profitable product line. Management now plans to accelerate growth in existing markets while expanding into Asia and adjacent sectors such as wine and broader aroma applications. The company reports “profitable from day one” unit economics and rapid commercial traction. To date EvodiaBio has secured €20 million across three funding rounds, including a €7 million raise last year and the latest €6 million round announced today.

These enzymes catalyse the conversion of challenging, renewable feedstocks directly into bio-active ingredients, offering a sustainable alternative to petroleum-derived chemicals. The company positions its technology as a full-stack solution that enables consistent, scalable production of natural ingredients across multiple high-value sectors such as food, flavourings, cosmetics and specialty chemicals. Industry traction is already evident through partnerships with leading specialty chemical manufacturers and pilot-scale initiatives aimed at bringing the first products to market. Recent hiring from top pharmaceutical firms and the University of Oxford has strengthened expertise in machine learning, enzyme engineering, process scaling and commercialisation. Proceeds from the latest funding will expand the enzyme discovery engine, scale wet-lab capabilities and grow the team. The company did not disclose revenue or user metrics, but investor interest highlights strong demand for bio-based solutions that deliver both performance and sustainability.

  • WNWN Food Labs

    Founded in 2021, WNWN Food Labs (branded Win-Win) has developed patented fermentation technology that turns ingredients such as rice and carob into chocolate-like products that look, melt, taste and snap like traditional chocolate. The company’s cocoa-free formulations use up to 80 % less water and generate 82 % fewer CO2e emissions than conventional chocolate, directly addressing deforestation, climate-driven yield declines and other ethical issues in the cacao supply chain. Win-Win applies classic chocolate-making steps—roasting, grinding, refining and tempering—to its alternative base, enabling seamless substitution in pastries, cookies, coatings, desserts and more. Its portfolio currently includes award-winning vegan “M.lk” and dark varieties and has secured a distribution partnership with Martin Braun-Gruppe for the DACH region. With growing demand from manufacturers, food-service providers and retail, the startup plans to scale UK production and enter major European markets. To date, the company has raised £8 million in equity financing to fuel team growth, new product lines and continental expansion.
