- Prewave
Participated · Series A · May 2023
Prewave is a Vienna, Austria–based provider of an AI-enabled sustainability, risk and compliance platform. Its end-to-end solution automatically maps, scores and monitors millions of supply chain nodes to identify risk signals from vast and fragmented datasets. The platform ingests news and social media content across 400+ languages, company certifications and annual reports, government and NGO data feeds, and sanctions and Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) lists. Over 200 companies, including Lufthansa, Toyota, Ferrari and Dr Oetker, use Prewave to remain compliant and enhance supply chain resilience and sustainability. Prewave raised $67M in a Series B, and intends to use the funds to drive global growth and to support further product R&D on its proprietary AI technology. Prewave operates a holistic supply-chain risk platform that spans every phase of the risk lifecycle—identifying, analyzing, mitigating and reporting risks. It uses a proprietary crawler to ingest publicly available information across dozens of languages, connects to social media and supplements with external sources (for example USGS and GDACS) to detect events such as earthquakes, floods, political unrest, lawsuits and strikes. The company aggregates these signals into dynamic supplier risk scores and provides monitoring used by customers including BMW, Lufthansa and PwC. Prewave says its own crawler allows continuous expansion and improved coverage versus relying solely on external data providers. Headcount grew from about 20 employees at the start of last year to more than 100 today, which the company says mirrors a substantial revenue increase. With the new funding, Prewave plans to double down on recent growth and expand the product and coverage further. Prewave operates an AI-powered platform that analyses millions of online sources in more than fifty languages to detect, categorise and surface risks affecting suppliers. The platform covers a wide variety of risks including human rights issues, sustainability risks and compliance with supply-chain legislation, and it sends risk alerts directly to businesses so they can contact suppliers and mitigate disruptions. Prewave has an impressive client roster that includes ABinBev, AUDI, BMW, Porsche, PWC, Toyota and Zurich Insurance. The company says it has experienced ten-fold revenue growth over the last ten months. With the new funding the team plans to expand the platform’s supply-chain analysis capabilities and drive customer acquisition in new European markets. Co-founded in 2017 by Dr. Lisa Smith and Harald Nitschinger, Prewave is headquartered in Vienna.
- Instagrid
Participated · Series B · Feb 2022
Instagrid builds enterprise-grade portable chargers and a cloud-enabled software layer that boosts peak power extraction from battery cells. Its flagship “One” unit has sold about 30,000 units to date and the company is growing roughly 100% year-over-year. The product pairs proprietary power electronics with roughly 500,000 lines of software to convert a hardware battery problem into a software-driven solution; the pack weighs 20 kg, measures 42x21x42 cm, and can be recharged from a normal socket in a few hours. Customers include industrial contractors, utilities, medical and emergency services, media companies and humanitarian organizations. The company emphasizes materials-agnostic development and plans additions such as accessories for cloud monitoring, emissions and energy-usage analytics, improved energy-management algorithms (including three-phase power and UPS use cases), and more hardware. Instagrid is based in Stuttgart and was founded in 2018 by Andreas Sedlmayr and Sebastian Berning, both ex-Bosch battery researchers with PhDs in material science. Instagrid develops high-performance portable battery systems (Instagrid ONE) that enable mobile off-grid electricity for sectors such as construction, events and public safety, replacing diesel generators. The product allows use of renewable electricity at any location and targets the large off-grid market still dominated by combustion engines. The company claims its systems can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 85% over the product life cycle. Customers include major construction and service firms such as Strabag, Skanska Rental and the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), which uses Instagrid for track maintenance. Founded in 2018 by Sebastian Berning and Andreas Sedlmayr and based in Ludwigsburg, Instagrid plans to accelerate international expansion across Europe and the US. It also intends to expand its battery platform with digital services and connectivity to enable smart, customized energy solutions. Instagrid develops an advanced portable power pack designed to replace petrol and diesel generators by delivering grid-like electricity at temporary locations. Its device is 90 percent smaller and lighter than traditional generators, reduces operating costs by about 40 percent, and produces zero local emissions. The product targets construction workers, event organisers, gardeners, disaster-recovery teams and humanitarian organisations. Founded in 2018 and based in Stuttgart, the company plans to first sell through recognised brand partners' distribution channels, with premium European tool brands committed to a widespread market launch in the second half of 2020. It is finalising its supply chain and intends to follow with a direct-to-consumer online sales channel under its own brand. An integrated IoT connection will generate data insights to enable tailored solutions for end users. instagrid develops portable battery storages that provide a mobile power supply for working at temporary locations. The company has created a “Software defined Battery” technology with a modular design to reduce the size and weight of the energy source. As a first step, instagrid will sell its battery storage as white‑label products marketed through its brand partners’ existing distribution channels. It then plans to expand market entry under its own brand through direct online sales. The company aims for a widespread market launch with major European brand partners in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavia in the first half of 2020. instagrid raised a seven-figure euro funding round to bring the product to market.
