  • Deeplite

    Participated · Seed · Apr 2021

Deeplite offers a platform, Neutrino, that transforms trained deep neural networks into highly compressed models tailored for constrained hardware so they can run on devices like cell phones, drones or Raspberry Pi. The product lets customers specify deployment targets and compression levels, trading small amounts of accuracy for large reductions in model size (examples cited include shrinking 200 MB to 11 MB and 50 MB to 100 KB). The company positions its software to reduce compute, memory and battery requirements for edge AI deployments. Deeplite launched officially in mid-2019 with roots in the TandemLaunch incubator and is based in Montreal. It has 15 employees and plans to double headcount by the end of the year, with hubs planned in Montreal and Toronto and flexible remote work options. The company recently closed a $6M seed investment to support product and team growth.

  • Kaloom

    Led · Series A · Nov 2018

Kaloom builds a fully programmable, automated cloud-native networking solution aimed at distributed edge data centers and telecom operators. Its software targets service providers, fixed and mobile operators, data centers, and cloud service providers to simplify how distributed cloud edge and data-center networks are built, managed and operated. The company says it supports a heterogeneous hardware strategy and is extending platform support to SmartNICs and servers. Kaloom plans to use recent funding to accelerate its go-to-market efforts, ramp up sales, and expand into new markets. Management positions the product to enable 5G-Edge and private 5G monetization for global service provider customers. The company is based in Montréal’s Quartier de l’innovation and maintains a presence in Silicon Valley. Kaloom offers a Unified Edge Solution centered on its Cloud Edge Fabric, a programmable, automated, cloud-native networking fabric with built-in support for network slicing and an embedded multi-Tbps 5G UPF. The company integrates Red Hat OpenShift into its solution to streamline and optimize edge resources. Kaloom is accelerating deployment and market adoption of its edge products and is in active PoC trials with over 10 tier‑one global communication service providers. It has an expanded partnership with Telenor, including integration of its 5G packet core UPF into Telenor’s ecosystem. Following new financing, Kaloom strengthened its executive team by appointing Stéphane Boisvert as President while founder Laurent Marchand remains CEO and focuses on product innovation. Kaloom is based in the Quartier de l’innovation in Montréal, Quebec. Kaloom builds an automated Software Defined Fabric (SDF) — an industrialized software solution for open networking white boxes (including Accton and Delta) that enables self-discovery, self-provisioning and programmability. The product is positioned for hyperscale and distributed data center environments that require low latency, low cost and programmable networking. Kaloom targets cloud providers, telcos, enterprises, gaming companies, data center operators and 5G wireless providers. The company is based in Montreal’s Quartier de l'innovation and in Silicon Valley and was founded by CEO Laurent Marchand. Kaloom plans to use new funding to advance development and sales of its SDF and to expand headcount from 70 to 100 employees by year end. Total invested capital in the company is reported at $20.7 million. Kaloom is a Montreal-based networking company developing the Kaloom Flow Fabric to allow virtual network functions (VNF) to run at scale using commodity hardware, merchant silicon and existing data center architecture. The Kaloom Flow Fabric combines open networking and container-based virtualization to provide a completely lossless environment that ensures consistent connectivity and high availability. The company closed a US$10.7M Series A equity funding round and intends to use the proceeds to expand operations. The financing was led by the Fonds de solidarité FTQ with participation from Somel Investments, MBUZZ Investments, Griffin Fund II and other current investors. Kaloom is led by co-founders Simon Williams (CEO) and Laurent Marchand (CTO). The company is growing its team in Montréal and Silicon Valley.
