Founded inside Google X in 2011 and spun out in 2012, Flux is developing a cloud-based design platform that aggregates massive data sets—such as building codes, material properties, and energy-use models—to streamline the creation of environmentally sustainable structures. The software aims to break down the silos separating architects, engineers, and contractors by providing shared tools for modeling, compliance checking, and emissions calculations. Initial use cases target large multi-dwelling units, though the product could extend to commercial projects and single-family homes. The company remains in stealth, with its first product slated to launch next year in partnership with at least one architecture firm and a construction group. Flux was co-founded by architect Michelle Kaufmann and former Google engineers Nick Chim (CEO), Jen Carlile, and Augusto Roman. To date, the team has disclosed an $8 million funding round and added DFJ partner Steve Jurvetson to its board. No revenue or user metrics have been released.
