Its clients include Nordstrom, eBay, Zillow, Microsoft, Sonic, Major League Soccer, IHG and Viacom. The company says it powers more than 25 million in-app customer interactions each month. Apptentive graduated from Techstars Seattle in 2012 and is described in the article as a five-year-old company. CEO Ganguly told GeekWire the new cash will be used to hire more employees, with plans to grow from 30 employees by adding 55 more in 2017. Total funding is reported at $12 million. Apptentive offers an SDK that lets mobile apps run in-app surveys and rating/review prompts to capture customer feedback and insights. Its platform is used by customers including Nordstrom, eBay, Zillow, Microsoft, Major League Soccer and others. The company says it powers more than 25 million in-app customer interactions each month. Revenue has doubled year-over-year and the CEO said profitability was "achievable," though the company chose to reinvest to support growth. The fresh funding will be used to expand the team from about 30 to 55 employees over the next year. Apptentive graduated from Techstars Seattle in 2012 and focuses on giving product, marketing, and leadership teams richer customer data to inform decisions. Apptentive builds in-app feedback and mobile app CRM tools that enable developers to message users directly, request reviews, and pre-empt negative app-store feedback. Its product suite includes a proprietary "Love Score" metric and analytics to measure app sentiment, reviewer quality and bias. The tools are integrated into thousands of iOS and Android applications, including 100 "key accounts," reach over 150 million end users and power more than 5 million customer conversations per month. Apptentive positions itself as a conversational engagement layer—helping companies talk with users at the right time rather than acting as a reactive support channel. The company declined to provide revenue figures but CEO Robi Ganguly said growth is "very healthy and accelerating on a monthly basis." Apptentive plans to use the funding to expand its in-app tool suite, further product development, and to grow its engineering, sales and marketing teams. Apptentive offers an SDK/service that lets iOS and Android developers integrate customer feedback and communication channels directly inside their apps to run surveys and initiate conversations. With a few lines of code developers can add in-app research and feedback flows intended to boost app store ratings and customer retention. The company says it has "hundreds of customers," including Yahoo!, Urbanspoon, and Savings.com. Apptentive recently graduated from the Seattle TechStars accelerator and its founders include alumni from Microsoft, Yahoo!, Apple, and Greystripe. The startup will use new funding to further product development and build out operations. Institutional and angel support underpin its early commercial traction.
