Taylor Farms

150 Main Street, Suite 300, Salinas, CA, 93901, United States

Overview

Taylor Farms' high quality salads and vegetables begin with high quality farming families. Since the beginning we’ve partnered with over 100 family growers across the country; several have been farming in the Salinas Valley since the early 1920’s. Many say farmers were America’s first environmentalists. This continues to be true today. The land is our growers' livelihood. They are committed to using sustainable farming practices to grow the finest quality vegetables and preserve their land in order to pass onto the next generation of farmers.

  • FarmWise

    Participated · Series B · Jun 2022

FarmWise develops and deploys autonomous weeding robotics, using AI to scan and tend vegetable crops. The company has operated commercially in California and Arizona and its robots have logged 15,000 commercial hours and captured about 450 million crop scans. FarmWise’s core product is designed to provide cost-effective, sustainable solutions to labor shortages on farms. The new funding will accelerate R&D and the rollout of its existing product to more farmers. CEO Sebastien Boyer emphasized expanding the technology to work with many more farmers amid rising agricultural costs. Fall Line Capital co-founder Clay Mitchell is joining FarmWise’s board as part of the round. FarmWise develops autonomous, AI-enabled farming robots that perform a variety of field tasks beginning with precision weeding and personalized care for individual plants. Its machines use machine learning models, computer vision and high-precision mechanical tools to remove weeds while eliminating chemical inputs. FarmWise reports its robots have removed weeds from more than 10 million plants and says each robot can weed crops sufficient to feed a medium-sized city of roughly 400,000 inhabitants. The company is enhancing the scale and depth of its proprietary plant-detection and actuation technology so robots can monitor plant health and deliver targeted interventions, effectively acting as specialized doctors for crops. FarmWise employs a 25-person team of farming and AI experts drawn from MIT, Stanford and Columbia and recently raised capital to expand engineering, operations and R&D. FarmWise develops adaptive autonomous farming equipment that leverages computer vision, deep learning and plant recognition to perform effective weeding. Its machines aim to replace herbicides, increase yields and adapt to different crops. The company says its machine learning algorithms will enable the systems to adjust to additional farming tasks over time. FarmWise was founded in 2016 by Sebastien Boyer and is based in San Francisco, CA. The company raised $5.7M in seed funding to pilot its first autonomous machines on some of the largest vegetable farms in the US and to expand its engineering team. As part of the financing, inventor Bruce Leak joined FarmWise's board of directors.

  • Ganaz

    Participated · Equity · Nov 2018

Ganaz builds a workforce stack tailored to agricultural workers who often lack documentation and bank accounts, using SMS/WhatsApp for payments and offline-capable tablets for onboarding and basic training. The platform centralizes worker records and employer-facing interfaces while acting as an intermediary for text alerts and communications. Ganaz plans to issue a payroll Mastercard later this year to let workers avoid check-cashing fees and to capture a share of card transaction fees, and it intends to automate remittances through integrated partnerships. The company emphasizes low-tech, accessible UX (SMS, WhatsApp, simple web apps for sensitive flows) and has designated itself a public benefit corporation to prioritize mission-aligned decisions. Operational traction includes 75 employers signed and roughly 175,000 workers on the platform; Ganaz reports that both ARR and user count approximately tripled year over year. Near-term priorities are rapid expansion, aggressive roadmap execution, and solidifying its position in the U.S. and Mexico before broader expansion. Ganaz builds a platform that helps agriculture and manufacturing employers communicate with large numbers of workers via text from a central dashboard. The product includes onboarding tools, worker-retention features and a service that will let workers receive payment through a dedicated debit card. The startup plans to offer a built-in remittance feature so workers can send earnings abroad. Ganaz targets blue-collar industries and seasonal foreign laborers who are relatively new to technology and are underserved by mainstream SaaS. The company graduated from the Seattle Techstars program last year after pivoting from an earlier Glassdoor-like concept. CEO Hannah Freeman previously ran partnerships at Fair Trade USA; Ganaz has seven employees and is hiring engineering talent. The company has raised $3.3 million to date. Ganaz operates a platform that lets farmers post job listings, communicate directly with seasonal workers, and send urgent messages while translating communications into workers’ native languages. The product reduces reliance on intermediaries by enabling direct employer-worker connections and claims reach to hundreds of seasonal farm workers. The company was co-founded by Hannah Freeman and Sri Artham in spring 2017 and is headquartered in Seattle, serving farms up and down the West Coast. Ganaz graduated from the Techstars Seattle accelerator earlier this year and received seed funding as part of that program. With the latest financing, the company plans to at least double its five-person team and recruit diverse, customer-facing hires who are close to the communities they serve. To date Ganaz has raised close to $2.35 million.

  • HarvestPort

    Participated · Series A · Mar 2017

HarvestPort operates a marketplace that aggregates demand among growers to secure discounts from retailers while adding value to retailers through sales, marketing, logistics, and administration. The company has launched a Transitional Inputs package that pairs conventional fertilizer with novel soil amendments to help growers transition toward more sustainable practices. In partnership with Penny Newman, HarvestPort will sell a soil amendment called Carbon Penetrant that opens and aerates soil, supports microbial life, and aims to reduce nitrogen application. Carbon Penetrant is said to have the potential to reduce nitrogen use by about 30% over three growing seasons and is currently being marketed with a focus on almonds. HarvestPort positions this offering as a middle ground so growers can save money today while experimenting with products that may cut long-term input spend. The company is promoting the package partly in response to anticipated California regulations limiting nitrogen application. HarvestPort also benefits partner merchants by performing go-to-market functions, allowing them to reach new markets without hiring dedicated sales teams. HarvestPort operates an online marketplace that matches sellers, lenders and service providers with borrowers seeking farm equipment and related services. The platform includes a seasonal planning dashboard to schedule leases and rentals, and it invoices borrowers, tracks equipment, and enforces accountability via online contracts. HarvestPort does not arrange transport but prompts users to document transportation terms and logistics. The company began with harvesting bins and has expanded to include heavy machinery, implements, transport assets, cold storage, irrigation, power and lighting, and supply-chain assets. Users include professional suppliers, equipment dealerships, agribusinesses, and farming groups. HarvestPort will use new funding to drive product development, expand equipment categories, and improve the platform’s search functionality. The team is based in California.
